"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

Half the country doesn't pay taxes, Mr. Powell!!!! I'm counting down the days when the system collapses and everyone gets a long overdue history lesson.

social security taxes are in essence income taxes...so everyone does indeed pay

Yes, the SS is part of the Income Tax. And so many other taxes (such as the Corporate Tax) are pasted along to the consumer. People really don't realize how they end up paying for all the taxes, fees and government regulations, etc.

If Americans want to pay more taxes, why don't they? The Cabinet and Congress are full of people who bend over backwards not to pay anything.

Powell and Al Gore have been seen making the rounds researching which fuel cell they are going to invest in.

Pretty sad. I thought Powell had more common sense than that.

Powell at the UN knowingly presenting false information as a pretense for the Iraq invasion

"There can be no doubt that Saddam Hussein has biological weapons and the capability to rapidly produce more, many more." [1] (http://www.state.gov/secretary/former/powell/remarks/2003/17300.htm)

http://mediamatters.org/research/200510270014

In his speech to the U.N., Powell declared that "Saddam Hussein is determined to get his hands on a nuclear bomb. He is so determined that he has made repeated covert attempts to acquire high-specification aluminum tubes from 11 different countries, even after inspections resumed." Powell then told the U.N.: "Most U.S. experts think they are intended to serve as rotors in centrifuges used to enrich uranium. Other experts, and the Iraqis themselves, argue that they are really to produce the rocket bodies for a conventional weapon, a multiple rocket launcher."

What he did not say, however, was that the State Department's own Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) was one of the two intelligence agencies that dissented from the views of "most experts." Indeed, Greg Thielmann, who was in charge of assessing Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction programs for INR, later told CBS News that in 2001, he had "reported to Secretary Powell's office that they [INR] were confident the tubes were not for a nuclear program."

Wow! Really.... this is just... WOW! I feel a rant coming over me just about now but I'll keep it short....

Pardon me Mr. Powell, but WHICH of the so-called happy fucking taxpayers is it that you personally have interviewed as saying they WANT to pay more blood sucking taxes? Was it the Americans who are actually working and paying taxes or the ones getting money from the working ACTUAL taxpayers?

F-U Powell! What a complete and total douche-bag ass-munch. Amazing!

PS: This is certainly an appropriate moment for more colorful metaphors!

Excuse me - but Powell was blindsided on that occasion - the admin LIED to him!

That said, I am incredibly disappointed with his latest statement and what respect (A LOT!) I had for the man just went down the crapper!

If you read the Media Matters link I posted it's evident that Powell knew much of the information was at the very least dubious yet he went ahead with the presentation in no uncertain terms. Powell knowingly propagated the lies and has the blood of tens of thousands of innocent civilians on his hands.

Colin Powell is a moron and always has been. He was probably more responsible for that UN dog and pony show than anyone else. If Bush had listened to Cheney the UN wouldn't have been involved, there would have been no "lies" and although there still would have been a war at least it would have been less dishonest. In my opinion Powell was the absolute worst member of the Bush administration.

I'm ashamed of the man because of his comments, how disconnected can he be.

My name is Colin (call-in) and almost every sub I've ever had called me Colon because of him. It annoyed me. Now that Colin Ferrel is popular though it has shifted a bit to more people actually calling me by my name.

I don't and I'm an American. This is the whole problem; Powell wants to think collectivistically ("Americans"), when the rights of individuals are what matters.

The guy been a figurehead for two Iraq wars in the past 20 years. I've been a little baffled as to why he is given so much credibility.

My only guess is because he wasn't a part of the last four years of the Bush presidency? Seems a little late to feign a conscience.

Powell is POS coward. I saw his presentation to the UN. It reeked of BS at the time. If I could see it there is no way on earth that he didn't know it at the time too. He has said since that he opposed the Iraq war. If that was what he believed he should have stood up for his beliefs.

He has proven track record of pushing lies, does any one take his claims seriously?

So why do we need two parties, exactly?

So why do we need two parties, exactly?

There are 2 parties except the Demos and Repubs are the same party. They only wave 2 different flags, but we all know they are the same team. Then there are us the ones not plugged into the matrix.

Powell is mental. This is why ppl stayed home and didn't vote for McCain. They viewed McCain as a big spender like Bush.
