YouTube - The Hijab as Feminist Statement? - Bronwyn Winter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7IrvkhUb3Y)

Are there any followers of the Muslim religion that frequent these boards?

I was interested in the claim in the video that the head scarves are actually a relatively newer garment.

Well, I have very little knowledge or experience with Islam, but I can easily see how the hijab would become a feminist statement.

I mean, you've got Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and all these other slutty women all over the tv . . . you're going to have at least some women who rebel against that and assert their sexuality as something sacred, something that will only be shared with a husband.

When the celebrity women are all but naked, covering oneself becomes a statement.

Just as long as it is a personal choice to wear the hijab . . . I'm all for it.
