... I have some friends who are die hard W followers. They feel like all the attacks against him were just the evil liberal media. I've gently tried to ease them into understanding that he and others around him did some pretty heinous things to our Constitution but they're not buying it.

What's a good book to hand them? It needs to be fairly short, to the point, easy to read, etc..

I'm thinking of "A Nation of Sheep" by Judge Napolitano..

Good choice. Or have them watch this:

America: Freedom to Fascism - Director's Authorized Version (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173)

Or you could have them watch this, which is more focused on Obama (actually it's more about the globalist agenda rather than Obama himself), but deals with Pres. Bush at the start. They may be more likely to watch it that way (if they know it focuses on Obama more than Bush):

The Obama Deception (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7886780711843120756)

If your friends can't see the PATRIOT Act as a direct violation of at least one amendment contained within the Bill of Rights, or any other act of W's stepping outside of the boundaries of the Tenth, I would save yourself some time and energy and stop trying to debate them.

If they don't get it by now, they're not going to get it.

Yep, "Nation of Sheep" is a very good tool. As I mentioned, in an earlier post today, Nap's book opened my father's eyes (actually got him pretty PO'd about being misled by GOPers). I talked to him today about the book and he said he was reading the book last month at the doctors office and his doctor told him he should've read it last year before the election. Come to find out, due to reading the book, his doctor experienced a change in his viewpoint on the republican party that he had supported in the past; he voted third party (he didn't tell my father which candidate he voted for though).

Hmm. Short and to the point. The Revolution: A Manifesto (http://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Manifesto-Ron-Paul/dp/0446537519) comes to mind directly.

It would be nice to have a "Cliffsnotes" of the Federalist and Anti-Federalist works for situations like this to peak interest.

I've actually read a good deal of books about how the GOP went wrong lately. They're in the Liberty Books (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=129762) section but my favorite are as follows. Also they are from GOP insiders so it might have more credibility with your friends. In order of preference:

1. The Real Deal on How Politicians, Bureaucrats, and Other Washington Barbarians Are Bankrupting America (http://www.amazon.com/Rome-Wasnt-Burnt-Day-Politicians/dp/0060749857/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240618894&sr=1-1) by "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough- I liked this a lot and took the time to write a review (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?p=2095274#post2095274) . He was a member of the "Class of '94" and goes after the GOP and specific members that betrayed the "Revolution of '94". The best insider's report from a principled "libertarian-conservative"

2. Invasion of the Party Snatchers: How the Holy-Rollers and the Neo-Cons Destroyed the GOP (http://www.amazon.com/Invasion-Party-Snatchers-Victor-Gold/dp/1402212496/) by Victor Gold- Takes a longer term view detailing the co-opting of the Republican Party in the '80's by Neo/Theocons until the present day.

3. Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy (http://www.amazon.com/Impostor-George-Bankrupted-America-Betrayed/dp/0385518277/) by Bruce Bartlett- Goes into specific policy details where the Bush and the GOP went off track. Unfortunately Bartlett is now cheerleading Keynesian "stimulus" to get out of the current mess.

4. Where the Right Went Wrong: How Neoconservatives Subverted the Reagan Revolution and Hijacked the Bush Presidency (http://www.amazon.com/Where-Right-Went-Wrong-Neoconservatives/dp/0312341164/) by Pat Buchanan- I haven't read it but really should. The title says it all.

Oh and this reminds me of this. Written in June 2006(!). The article by Bruce Fein addresses the Constitution specifically:

Time For Us To Go: Conservatives on why the GOP should lose in 2006 (http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2006/0610.forum.html)
