Noam disappointed me recently. I read an interview on google news, and he was too pro-Obama, too happy to blame capitalism, and he talked about Ron Paul supporters, but didn't seem to really get us.

It was a couple months ago, I can't find the link...

Oh it was wikinews (http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Interview_with_US_political_activist_and_philosoph er_Noam_Chomsky), not google news!

FTA:

Well I think Ron Paul supporters can be appealed to on these grounds [ETA: viewing a "functioning democracy" government as a friend rather than enemy], they're also against military intervention, and we can ask "okay, why?" Is it just for their own security, do they want to be richer or something? I doubt it, I think people are concerned because they think we destroyed Iraq and so on.

See: he doesn't get that it's not about government to us, its about liberty and Constitutionalism (for those who aren't voluntaryists yet). He goes on to say that "doctrines" can be compromised to reach certain results, and that "differences can be overcome."

He's a socialist that understands what horrible things government can do, but thinks everything would be better if only he and his cohorts were in charge. We don't want anyone to be in charge, to be able to spend us into oblivion or to kill our human brothers in the name of the State.

There can be no compromise here on doctrinal principles, even if we can work together to accomplish some goals of changing the current direction of government.

Uh, guys, isn't Noam Chomsky a major socialist?

Yes, though he's of the ilk of a Kucinich, where 50% of what they say is entirely correct, but they still think that collectivism is the answer and are left to mental gymnastics explaining what needs to be fixed, necessarily infringing on one groups rights or property interests in favor of another group's.

I despise labels.

I can say that I am a huge fan of Noam's views on foreign policy and media, I have not seen much of his material that would deal with domestic affairs where positions could be referred to as socialist.

Even if this is true it would not change the fact that he has fascinating perspectives on foreign policy and media.

Label or no label, Chomsky is no friend of liberty. He may be truthful about media bias and he's good on the Israel/Palestinian conflict. However, he'll be the first to support government or unions taking away the rights of private property to support the "common good".

I have a few friends that are Chomskyites and they are more than willing to forcefully remove my property or destroy my rights as a business/individual. I find it very entertaining that he calls himself a social libertarian. In reality, he's a just as much of a tyrant as our current group of the politicians. He's just a different shade of big government tyranny.

I too was fooled by Chomsky years ago during my "awakening"...

Anyone who writes something with this title is automatically suspect...

I don't understand the fascination with throwing an entire person in the trash because a small section of their views don't happen to match yours...

Noam is awesome on foreign policy, media, and a general attitude of critical thinking proliferation, I don't have to agree with his domestic opinions in order to know he is a brilliant man worthy of analysis and respect.
