View Full Version : Opportunity for us?

The coming Supreme Court vacancy poses a challenge for us.

There have been many indications of opportunities for collaboration with the left (leader of DailyKos, Kucinich, Chomsky, et al.).
There is some overlap of concerns and ideas.
No lack of energy and creativity among the RP grassroots
.

So, I'm throwing down the gauntlet:

Among those that Obama might plausibly nominate, who is our best hope?

We need to have this debate now and promote our choice(s).

Somewhat opaquely, Obama, a constitutional law lecturer, has said that the single most important qualification his appointments must possess is empathy for those who are less fortunate.

Screw the law.

Obama's not going to consider our opinions. He's pushing an agenda.

Judge Napolitano.

Well, yeah, but I don't think Obama would consider him. Game is to pick the most libertarian of any possibly Obama picks.

Screw the law.

That's right! Laws should only protect the weak, not all of us.

Granholm. Please God, take her away from Michigan.

You are assuming that Obama has the good qualities of the left, which he does not.
He is another corporate whore warmonger. He'll nominate a corporate whore privacy invading warmonger who always rules in favor of the state instead of the constitution or the individual.

Great thread- wish I had some good picks.

There has to be some research already done on this...

When has that ever stopped us before?! ;)

No assumptions at all. Supreme Court pick history is full of regrets and surprises--look at the reason for this thread!

People get nominated for a variety of reasons.

There might be some hints or clues for us here:

http://www.newser.com/story/30706/in-harvard-law-review-presidency-signs-for-the-future.html

As president of the Harvard Law Review, Barack Obama gave voice to a mix of conservative and liberal ideas and "maneuvered his way around pretty well," says the author of a new book about Harvard Law School. Politico dissects Obama's 1990-91 tenure in search of omens in the story of a young black man elected to head a tradition-bound, white-dominated institution.

comment mentions Richard Posner--definitely a good choice for us (under the circumstances, relative to the other likely possibilities)

Another says Russ Feingold who would be good on civil liberties, at least.

"Noam Chomsky for SCOTUS!"

Also mentions Al Gore.

Any Georgians know about her: Leah Ward Sears?

I smell a Republican Epic Fail coming (5+ / 0-)
How can they not screw this up?

Nadine Strossen past prez ACLU!!!!!!!!!!
