Sen. Dick Durbin, on a local Chicago radio station this week, blurted out an obvious truth (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/29/dick-durbin-banks-frankly_n_193010.html) about Congress that, despite being blindingly obvious, is rarely spoken: "And the banks -- hard to believe in a time when we're facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created -- are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place." The blunt acknowledgment that the same banks that caused the financial crisis "own" the U.S. Congress -- according to one of that institution's most powerful members -- demonstrates just how extreme this institutional corruption is.

Can we use this to lobby Dems for 1207/604???

I wish. Liberal Democrats are a rabid and vicious bunch. The moderates might be willing to listen but it's difficult to get the hard Left to hear anything other than their own agenda.

Couldn't hurt to try though.

Is Durbin a co-sponsor? Are their any dems on the list? If not, it may be time for a phone/fax/email campaign.

We should target him specifically, if he hasn't signed on as a co-sponsor. Give him the gooliani treatment until he does.

Some people would call this a "moment of clarity."

He's a Senator. And yes, there about 15-20 or so democrats co-sponsoring.

I think we shouldn't tie this to anything. I think we should just toob it and make it viral as hell.

Let's make this vid into a pandemic and see what kind of panic ensues!

Durbin is also the Democrat Senate Majority Whip- the guy who literally "whips" the rank and file into order. The report I read about his statement said that he has been meeting bank opposition on all his legislation.

We might be able to get him to cosponsor S 604. I think a good tactic to get it across the Senate is play devil's advocate. If Ron Paul gets this passed, his legitimacy is that much greater; the Democrats would be able to drive a wedge between an increasingly dangerous Ron Paul and a stagnating GOP.

Find out which ones haven't accepted cash from the banks...

Have all the "Blue Dog" democrats been contacted? Do we even have a list of Blue Dogs?
