Scheuer seems to be defending the use of 'torture' but he never really defines it in the article. I think Scheuer believes that torture is a segment of the warfare state/interventionist foreign policy; the latter seems to beget the former for 'defensive' purposes in the world police state mentality. There is a breakdown of morals, but it starts with our foreign policy. Obama doesn't seem to want to admit it or do anything to reduce our bootprints around the world. I don't agree with Scheuer's policy position but on an individual basis, the decision is ultimately made by the interegator and he along with any others giving such an order should be held accountable for the action taken.

Are we to start 'letting' police torture suspected drug dealers because their shipment might hurt some teenagers? How about torturing Janet Jackson on her next apparel choice bc. she might 'scar' some young minds for a lifetime? Why don't we torture Bernanke and Paulson into tell us what they've done to hurt the US economy, it seems they are part of a terrorist cell themselves? WTF kind of thinking is this, where will the gov't draw the line if the public gives a blessing to a policy of torture?
