Economics is not a science and adheres to NO NATURAL LAWS, especially when totally fiat.
Hence, none of the economic variables are linked in any predefined manner and observe no
boundaries. Therefore, MEN can create any rule they wish, at any time they wish, even
negative interest rates.

Sure, they can create negative interest rates, but no banks will lend at those rates, obviously.

Anyway, there is point to what you are saying -- which basically explains why the chinese are still buying US treasuries.

who would put money in a savings account that had a negative interest rate?
Savings accounts can't earn more than the lending rate.
The whole idea is stupid.
The only way they could do it is with inflation. massive inflation.

Let me add to this.. to do what is suggested is basically how our country commits default on all our debts.
Why don't they just declare all debts null and start from scratch? we can just skip over this who charade.

I have two different answers for you:

Ever read the book or see the movie 1984? Do you recall the slogan "War is Peace". Brainwashing through propaganda is real, so a brainwashed person can be convinced to do anything the brainwasher wants. Hence, a brainwashed person would put money into such a savings account.

Someone with a gun to their head would. A gun like the size of the US Military.

I wonder if there was ever a time where people asked themselves if a parent would ever allow the State to take their child away from them for 8-hours a day to "educate" them? I imagine there must have been a time in our nation's history where that question seemed just as illogical as the question that you just asked.

Imagine a currency based on supermodels... rare and ... redeemable? ;)

Then again, the government will find a way to inflate the currency with cloning. :(

I don't know. According to Gresham's Law, the bad replaces the good. ;)

Well that's what Schiff said -- the entire staff at the Fed should be fired for even promoting this absurd notion.

There is a good herd of sheep that seemingly would do anything Obama tells them to do. They fit the profile. :)
