WASHINGTON – Five members of Congress have been arrested while protesting the expulsion of aid groups from Darfur in front of the Sudanese Embassy in Washington.

They were among eight people led away in handcuffs Monday after crossing a police line.

More at link. I wish they were as passionate about America.

Why wasn't Ron Paul there?

Darfur needs aid desperately. The Muslims in Khartoum are trying their best to kill of these poor Christians in Darfur so they can take their land which happens to be oil rich. The young ones they make salves, the older ones they kill. Really sick stuff.

Hold on - Darfur needs stability and security, not "aid." Government handouts are what fuel violence, there needs to be less aid given, and more capitalists sent in.

And don't even try to make it a Religious thing - the motivating factor, AFAI can tell, of the violence is tribalism and protecting and acquiring territory over which they claim right to protection money and resources. They might praise Allah when their plans are successful, but they could just as easily be thanking Jesus.

The Collectivism in your post is outstanding.

How about: "We wish the best for the people of Darfur, but we aren't the police of the world."?

I think you may have really just meant "forget about Darfur," rather than "I hope they all suffer," but I don't want viewers of the thread to assume you meant, and that the rest of the forum supports, the latter.

If you dont' have money to feed your own family, do you spend your last penny to feed your neighbor?
The US can't even take care of its own poor, yet these fucks are worried about Darfur.
If they are true philanthropist, there are plenty of people in need right here at home. They should spend their time and money saving them first.

Anyone who knows anything about Dr. Paul knows he understands that it is unconstitutional to give taxpayer money away for any reason. He does not condone socialism-stealing from one to give to another.

He does, however, totally approve of voluntary charity.

We should invite them to our next tea party or "End the Fed" protest. That will test who their allegiance is to.

This is going to sound harsh. But we need to put aside being the world police, and clean our own house by restoring the Republic and returning the nation to constitutional values. We need to fix OURSELVES instead of fixing other countries

Besides, it is painfully apparent that instead of doing anything that remotely fixes Darfur, our "aid" keeps it broken, fuels the genocide there - and I'm sure someone is profiting off of it.

We cannot spread freedom at the end of a rifle or with subsidies; we have to stand as an example of a free society in order to truly spread freedom.

We could solve the whole problem with 20000 m16s and 2M rounds of 5.56

If we put a rifle and ammo in the hands of every farmer on the planet, we could go back to creating peace love and chocolate chip cookies for ourselves.

The article linked to in the OP doesn't mention that these are non-governmental agencies. I don't know who the groups are but, it is possible they are charitable organizations ( not using tax money ).

Here's another article. I'm at work and don't have anymore time to research this.

UN Protests Expulsion of Aid Agencies from Darfur (http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/2009-03/2009-03-06-voa33.cfm?CFID=180776565&CFTOKEN=21365132&jsessionid=8830be318cff0c9cec783868766c5e714474)

UN aid agencies strongly protest the expulsion of 13 leading non-governmental organizations from Sudan's conflict-ridden province of Darfur.

Afganistan has fought off aggressors since the beginning of time. They beat Russia. I hope we find a way to change history, but I doubt we will.

Right..........because our coffers are overflowing with extra money to give away!

If the Senators really care about the situation they should move there and try to help the people themselves instead of having us pay for it.

That was kind of my point. The country is heavily armed, but they're never allowed to quit fighting. Either internal turmoil rages, or external forces try to invade.

On a different note, whenever there is a genocide going on in Africa or people being repressed by their alleged govt. there is one country always involved, China.

Well, I don't get it.
I would rather that those who want to take care of someone do the caretaking they wish to do, and leave me to do the caretaking I wish to do.

All I can think while reading this thread is that it is really a lot easier to "make the world safe for democracy" than it is to be eaten by a lion in the arena. Yet one action is responsible for converting the known world to Christianity, and the other is responsible for pissing off most of the world's Muslims.

Not at all. I think RPF supporters take issue with the fact that Congresspeople attempt to use the government purse-strings to aid a foreign nation. I personally supported ONE (http://www.one.org/splashad/googlesplash6.html?gclid=CIav3MXXlJoCFQQrFQod3W3YN g) for Darfur, but I don't want my tax money being used.

Heck no. It becomes wrong when you lobby our government to steal from your fellow citizens to take care of a problem in a foreign nation.

If you want to lobby a government, start with sudan.

Or if you care that much, send aid yourself, or load your ass up and go fight for your beliefs.

Lets see how this one goes

First- we send massive amounts of foreign aid

Next- all aid is expelled

Then- the UN talks real big

Finally- The UN asks the US to lead a coalition

Do we really need more war

They're arrested protesting genocide in Darfur yet they continue to support the genocide in Iraq and Afghanistan which they can actually DO something about
