It seems like reporters are not asking simple and to the point questions any more. I'd like to know more about where certain candidates specifically stand.

I suggest that we come up with a questionnaire that we can have candidates fill out. It would be well worth it for a candidate to take out a short bit of time to answer our groups questions considering we are a web portal that gets nearly 100,000 unique visitors per month. Almost all of us are interested in politics which makes us very well targeted traffic for a candidate looking to get a bump.

Adam Kokesh answered a large number of questions that came from our membership here and it immediately cleared up a number of questions about him.

Here is that thread: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=189068

Here are the questions asked:

Opinion on Gay Marriage?

Should the U.S. intervene in genocides outside of the U.S.?

Should owners of child pornography be prosecuted?

Should drunk driving be illegal?

If you had the option, would you make it federal policy to deny public schools' ability to create "zero tolerance" gun bans on "their" property?

Do you believe there is an organized attempt to create a New World Order? If so, what do you believe the goals of that New World Order are, and how long do you believe such an effort has been happening?

Would you support dismantling the U.S. nuclear arsenal, and if so, under what conditions, and if not, would you ever consider using them?

What do you believe the role of government (if any) is?

Favorite type of cookie?

Should Roe v. Wade be overturned and the federal government kept out of social issues entirely?

Should Congress pass the We the People Act?

Can the federal government only prosecute those crimes specifically enumerated in the Constitution (e.g., treason, piracy and other crimes on the high seas, crimes on federal territory, counterfeiting, etc.) as Thomas Jefferson discussed in the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 (http://www.constitution.org/cons/kent1798.htm), and all other federal criminal statutes should be completely repealed as unconstitutional?

Seeing as how in the founders' day a 'jury' tended to know about, or be told about, their nullification powers, should Congress pass a law explicitly requiring all federal criminal juries to be informed about jury nullification?

Look at http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/cabinet/ Which departments on that list should be abolished?

who do i make the check out to?

How do you feel about the modern secessionist movement?

Do you agree that individuals and militias should have the legal right to own the same kind of weapons that the government does? (WMDs, tanks, RPGs, heavy arms, etc.)

would you vote your conscience or the will of your constituents, if they differ?

how would you have handled the Katrina rescue effort if it were in your state?

What is the difference between your policies and those of George Bush?

What is the difference between your policies and those of Barrack Obama?

What is the difference between your policies and those of Ron Paul?

What are your thoughts on a resolution to the problem of illegal immigration?

What can our country do to make legal immigration less burdensome?

Your favorite fiction book?

Do you have anything negative in your past that would be potentially embarrassing or campaign-ending if revealed? This is the very first question any campaign manager would ask.

What accomplishments most qualify you for this office?

Do you have a sense of pride for this state?

Would you put this state over neighboring states?

What uniquely qualifies you to represent this state?

What is unique about this state which might make governing decisions different than that of, say California, Florida, New York (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/nuwiki.php?do=book.view&bookid=3), or Kansas?

What is Adam's stance on ASPARTAME. I know this to be a BIG ISSUE in New Mexico. I think a number of questions could be added as well as taken away.

If we were to come up with a relatively concise list, what would be important questions that you want answered before you would support a candidate with your time and/or money?

Unique questions are probably better than something that could be easily looked up. I think the less overlap the better but sometimes people do not have a large voting record or one at all.

Thanks.

good idea.
organizations send out these types of questionnaires to candidates all the time so that can rate them for their members.

You can take their word. But remember, actions speak louder than words.

the way it works- a person can lie on a questionnaire- but if they get elected and don't vote that way. the organization has the record to prove they are a liar, and thus can turn their membership against them.
This is part of what the C4L is trying to do on the precinct level.

Good list, I like this idea a lot.

I'd ask a very simple question: What is your interpretation of the 2nd Amendment?

I like the Idea of a master questionnaire. Many of these questions I would include with a slight tweak here and there. I propose calling it the Liberty Forest 30 (LF30), Or something along those lines. I'm pretty sure there is around 30 questions. And keep the favorite fiction book question!

*maybe if a candidate replies they get responses stickied in their respective State forum for xx amount of days.

+1

I think there should be a public forum in which only admin/mods can create new threads. Each candidate who replies would receive a thread and we'd all scrutinize it in there. Threads would include a picture of the candidate, a brief description of their qualifications, and a link to their website.

What is Adam's stance on ASPARTAME. I know this to be a BIG ISSUE in New Mexico.

I'd cut out # 5, 7, 9, 11 (too obscure), 15, 16 (too obscure, could perhaps be reworded), 20-22, second sentence of 26, and 31. 32 should be re-worded.

14 should be tidied up. Perhaps we can work out a survey which provides a list of departments, and they'd answer that they'd keep, abolish, or "modify" (with a comments box) each listed department. This would be easy to do with something like Limesurvey.

If what I thought should be removed are, that'd leave us with 22 questions. 2 more could be removed, or we could accept more questions. It's already a very long questionnaire for candidates who have to carefully choose words.

I like the Idea. But "question"some of the questions.
I think it could be condensed, or at least put the 2 most important questions at the top.

1. What is the role of Government?
2. What is the purpose of the Constitution?

These should define all the rest of the questionnaire.

I would add "Do you consider the US Constitution a living, breathin document?" tones

Great idea!

How about a Liberty Rating scale based on responses? Like the Ron-Paul-O-Meter that Liberty Maven did last year.

It is a lengthy questionnaire; definitely down to 20 or lower. Also, Give candidates an option to post a small 100 (not sure of this length) word bio.

Can we finalize this questionnaire and get it to our potential candidates then reveal their answers on the forums all at once on a set money bomb date...

lol @ surveysRight?

I do think it's a good idea. I like this survey, though, because it demands answers not checkmarks in boxes.

the only thing that I think surveys would really be useful for is for newbie or wanna be politicians who want to run but who have no political track record.

For example, I have a candidate that talks a good talk, but his website is not covering ALL of the issues.

So a survey would be a really good way of getting that person on record. A survey would also be extremely helpful in establishing that platform for the newbie politician.

For example I have a guy in my town that I am considering campaigning for. Here is his issues page. http://castellanoforcongress.com/page3.shtml

As you can see, he doesn't talk about EVERYTHING. This is the only record I have for him on the issues. He is a political novice, he is a small businessman, successful and recognized in his industry.

He is fed up with status quo, he understands its not about R vs D etc etc... But I need to vet this guy, and I tell you what, a survey would do that for me.

I get a good sense of talking to him, but with a survey that he fills out, I can post it here and ALL of you can help me, eliminating any personal bias or misconception that may have come out in conversation.

A survey that is grassroots developed like the one in this OP is a standard format survey that can be recognized as the unofficial peoples process for vetting potential representation.

Of course if he can pass this muster, then it would be worth it to me to create a local survey that deals with specific issues in my area.

So I do see a useful way to implement surveys. Newbie pols, with no history, and a very light reading issue page.

What do ya think?

What do ya think? That's the same thing I was thinking. I have a near identical situation with Len Britton in VT. What I love about this guy is that he really is on the same page as us about foreign policy AND he's a fiscal conservative.
