Will this be on Glenn Beck? I'd rather hear him talk about it than CNN.

Didn't the Senate version at least take out the word "Mandatory" ?

I think with the way things are going my only choice is to homeschool my child. I wish that was not the case.

You are the best teacher for your child.

Teachers today are NOT educating the children, they are INTENTIONALLY INDOCTRINATING them.

Do NOT give up your child to the VILE AMERICAN INDOCTRINATION SYSTEM.

Clicked on that OpenCongress thing... First thing that popped out was:

In its current form, the legislation does not include a mandate requiring service.

Interesting... opencongress says the House bill had 37 co-sponsors. Think about that.

wow i feel retarded.. here is open congress' summary:

OpenCongress Summary:

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act would dramatically increase funding for AmeriCorps and other volunteer programs, including those for seniors and veterans. It also establishes a goal of expanding from 75,000 government-supported volunteers to 250,000, and would increase education funding and establish a summer service program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school student who participate.

In its current form, the legislation does not include a mandate requiring service.

edit: wait if they pay you money how is that volunteerism?

Hey, if they're taxing us for it, I might as well do it to get paid. I already do volunteer work for free.

I'd get $500 for college. My family isn't exactly one that has a lot to spend for me. Then again, I don't know the specifics of the volunteering, but if it's simple enough, why not.

Why not? You are helping the authoritarian state in its authoritarianism. My family ain't rich either, and I will never support the government in return for a bribe.

They're using the money my family is forced to give to them to fund this. I think I should at least get part of it back, especially if it's basically what I already do for free.

does my volunteer work with Special Olympics count?

let me do the math

Help these athletes - Priceless
Sign up for Obama's paid volunteer work 12,000

I'll stick with Priceless.

Obama can't put any value on volunteer work. PERIOD!

Assholes.

Sorry....this is getting so sick

Another reason they will HAVE to tax us higher.

BS!

It's not volunteer work if you get paid for it.

Your "volunteering" too, but you aren't getting paid. Think of it as true volunteerism, and be proud Comrade

FYI, I posted a "Feed Your Head" today - a FEE.org "timely classic" about this.

http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?p=2089720#post2089720

My favorite part from the article is the very end:

National Service: An Old Idea

And he said, “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots.

“He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.

“He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.”

—I Samuel 8:11-13

----

Like Dr. Paul says, FREEDOM is the NEW idea. Service to the king is the very very very OLD idea.
