...Good spot to engage on the battlefront of ideas or a waste of time?

So, rawstory.com is a daily read of mine. They do a DECENT job of covering a lot of issues I feel are important to me, but they fall into the left/right paradigm and they are on the left. I've been commenting heavily lately and recently they launched a user-based submission-news domain: http://rawstory.com/08/

What do you all think? Should I/we even bother? I love going there and debating people in the comments section because there are a lot of lefty kool-aid drinkers, but I feel it might be a waste of time insofar as bringing people over to our side of the fence. I dunno. I'd like to spend my time where its most effective, however, I LOVE showing how hypocritical these people are given the message they espouse.

Here's an example:

My comment is awaint mod approval, but here it is:

Your comment is awaiting moderation.

Garofalo is “straight up retarded.” I guess the black speaker at one of the Tea Parties in the following video is a racist, too?

YouTube - Houston Tax Day Tea Party (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t92OCES2DfA&fmt=18)

There were many diverse people at the tea parties and to suggest that they’re ALL racist is not only ludicrous, but it shows what a partisan-hack, waste-of-space Garofalo is. Hell, my dad is racist and he’s a Democrat. Fortunately, I’m able to critically think and not fall for such fallacies. Garofalo = FAIL

I wouldn’t call socialism a mental illness. The intentions are good, but the means to the end not only don’t work, they also impose tyranny upon the
individual.

Socialism does not equate to people controlling their own country. We have had socialism since 1913 and even before that. Do you think in that time we’ve had control over our country with corporations and special interests dominating our lives? How about bailouts for bankers? How about destroying our currency?

Comparing us as an example of a non-socialist nation to Sweden as a socialist nation is incorrect. We are a socialist country and so is Sweden. So, the correlation between less mental illness and socialism is invalid. We have social safety nets, too. Ever heard of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security? The most humane way to deal with the mentally ill is through charitable donations, family, and community volunteers and not forcing people at the point of a gun to participate in your program against their will.

What is it about a free-society in which people have the freedom of choice to participate or not in your Utopian programs that terrifies you so much? And to say that socialism is cooperative is utter nonsense. How is it cooperative if I don’t want to hand my wages over to your insolvent social programs, yet you and your gang use the monopolistic-force of government to steal my property? Is that cooperation? No. There is plenty of cooperation in societies in which individual liberty is respected and not tread upon; even more so that a socialist-democracy because their is no resentment from forced participation.

A collection of individuals IS a society! LOL. What else is it? Am I a group? A society is nothing but a collection of individuals agreeing to work together to make their lives easier and safer. However, that doesn’t negate personal liberty. That doesn’t mean my time in exchange for wages aren’t my property and that they belong to the whole. To the contrary, they are MINE! Society doesn’t own me, my property, or my life. To suggest it does is just another form of tyranny. Perhaps you should go read the Federalist Papers, Anti-Federalist papers, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, John Locke, etc for our country was founded on the principles of government protecting individual liberty and not on the majority of the electorate forcing its will on the minority (aka Democracy).

I’m not a sovereign nation; I’m a sovereign individual.

I’m not convinced that I’m stronger on my own than in a group. The only knot that has been twisted is your misconception that socialism equals working together in a group. That is a SOCIETY! Socialism is a society in which the majority forces its will on the minority and the government intervenes in the free-market, regulating in favor of special interests.

Fool’s game? That’s the pot calling the kettle “black.” Again, A SOCIETY IS A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE THEIR LIVES SAFER AND MORE EFFICIENT. That does not include you and your gang pushing some insolvent social program and forcing others in society to participate through threat of violence via government. And again, more fallacies from you: “By those who sought to destroy your ability to help yourself along with your ability to help anyone else.” Yes, we don’t want to participate in your stupid Utopian programs on the verge of failure, so we obviously don’t want to help ourselves, and we most certainly aren’t leaders in our communities or charitable organizations! Guess what? Someone named Frédéric Bastiat wrote a book called “The Law”
back in the 1800’s. He spoke of this VERY same fallacy socialists permeate still to this day. “If citizen A doesn’t think the government should do B, then citizen A must be
opposed to B.”
Read it here:

The only people who have “screwed me to a wall” (whatever that means) and stole whatever they want from me is government on behalf of their crony corporate partners and the useless groups that advocate taking from others to give to themselves. You have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, living my own life and having freedom of choice is a terrible thing! Why don’t you tell us all how to live because obviously your way is so much better you arrogant and ignorant tyrant! And if someone disagrees with you? Why, you’ll just advocate for the government to lock them up!

Lol. And again, you talk as if the eight years of Bush were some radical liberty-induced, free-market ravaging of our country while government grew bigger and bigger, all the while indebting us further and further. That my friend is SOCIALISM and it is what you advocate for so strongly while pissing on freedom.

I won’t even bother responding to the remaining three paragraphs of yours since I can see they are filled with the same nonsense. You really need to read a book or two. Government has grown exponentially in size and scope since before the 1900’s, yet you think the problem is freedom? Big government is the antithesis of freedom. Increased government spending = increased taxation = less freedom individual freedom.

What do you guys think? Worthy battleground, or waste of time and effort?
