Prior to 1943 there was no withholding for income taxes (well actually there was briefly from 1913- 1916)- you had to come up with the money some how by April. The withholding was intended to make it easier for people to pay their income taxes by having some money taken out of their pay each time and spreading the taxes out over the entire year (it was quarterly back then). This was one of the commercials they put together to try to get people to sign up for the withholding. Donald Duck also helped sell War Bonds to finance WWII. The bill was called the "Current Tax Payment Act".

Someone must do a Donald piece that clears this crap up!

Save Donald and the taxpayers please.

Anyone noticed the adds that are running at the top of the forum and all over national TV with the founding fathers advertising for a tax preparer. It makes me want to puke.

I went to a place called Liberty Tax Preparers in Seattle last week and they didn't know how to file an extension?!?

I asked how they came up with the name, I said I guess Tyranny tax didn't have a good ring to it and left.
