A small but growing number of cash-strapped communities are printing their own money.

Borrowing from a Depression-era idea, they are aiming to help consumers make ends meet and support struggling local businesses.

I had an idea about this once...it ties in property tax and currency.

Say you owe $1000 in property taxes...you could opt to have an increase in your property tax bill and receive the equivalent amount in the local currency. So, you could pay $11,000 in property taxes and get $10k in local currency.

Now, your property tax is tax deductible...so that's about two or three thousand dollars off of your Income taxes. And now you have money to spend locally.

Seemed like a good idea at the time until someone pointed out that the $10k in local currency given to you could be taxed as some sort of income.

Outside of that small caveat...it could work. :D
