So everybody knows about the national debt clock in NYC. It is shown at least once a week on the news andhas become somewhat of a national symbol.

What if we, the grassroots, raised money to have a giant billboard placed next to it or above it or whatever that simply said "It does not have to be this way - campaignforliberty.com" or something of that nature?

I know the folks in chat liked the idea so what does everyone else think?

I think the caption could be improved upon, but I like the idea.

How about "Did you vote for this?"

How about "Did you vote for this?"

Unfortunately in NYC the honest answer would have to be "yes".

Unfortunately in NYC the honest answer would have to be "yes".When I wrote it I thought of it as having two meanings. If someone could walk by and say no they would be entitled to moral outrage. If someone walked by and had to say yes-- because they meant to or just voted like an idiot-- they could feel guilty about doing it to the rest of us. (Not that they would but...)

The Campaign for Liberty and the grassroots really needs to organize more interesting projects. Those always generate interest and money. Look at the blimp; raised over something like 450,000 dollars throughout its lifespan.

So is that an endorsement of this idea or are you saying we can do better?

It's a good idea - step one is finding out whether that's possible and price.

I don't know the best way to work it....

If somehow you could show changing different things about the Feds spending...like the war in Iraq....The War on Drugs..Bailouts..Stimulus...etc....And then have a clock running backwards with the amount of the deficit.

Dunno..but I think yours is a good idea

I am sure there has to be billboard spots in the vicinity of the debt clock. Now granted, it will cost a small fortune but if any grassroots organization out there can get something like this done it would be us.

Both.

I like this. This is the kind of stuff we need to do more of. Interesting projects like this, the blimp, Ron Paul newspaper, etc.

I like the idea. If some folks in NYC can accomplish the goal of placing a visible retort near such a debt clock, I'll commit myself for at least $50 and maybe a bit more... Good idea to garner some attention for the C4L in NYC. Keep us posted and preferably in a prominent place... ;)

I don't see anywhere you can put a billboard.

If "real money" in DC has gone from millions to billions to trillions hasn't gotten their attention what will , lemmings don't think they just follow.
My new cable bill has $17.50 increase in new tax and fees, that will just create anger
If cap and trade passes and their power bill goes up $100 or more, then you will get the attention of the masses.
And to think Ronald Reagan was trashed at the Democratic National Convention for running up a national debt of 357 million to and 55,000 people having their homes foreclosed on

Well if they can attach the clock to the wall, no reason why we could not attach a big sign to it as well

Or maybe the clock guys'll let us attach it to the top of the clock.

Money talks...

The sign could say something like this.

"Ron Paul knows it doesn't have to be this way.
see
www.campaignforliberty.com
to find out why"

Get a mini-blimp with that type of message and tie it above the clock

It seems like I have run into a dead end trying to get ahold of the owner of the debt clock. I just got off the phone with a representative of the Concord Coalition and they are going to assist me with tracking down this information. Keep your fingers crossed!
