Does anyone know of any libertarian, paleoconservative Democrats (besides Larry McDonald) in the current or past Congresses?

There seems to be several Republicans that are good including Dr. Paul, but not too many Democrats.

Didn't every dem vote for the stimulus bill? I'd say there are none.

Former Georgia Senator Zell Miller had some libertarian leanings.

It hasn't been the same party in any of our lifetimes. I'd say it hasn't been the same party since the 1800s.

As many as his fellow Georgian Bob Barr before he left Congress.

It hasn't been the same party since its Southern base turned Nanny-Statist because the Federal government had burned their homeland to the ground in a war and they wanted pay back.

Well, there was still a large block of conservative Southern Democrats in Congress up through the 1980s. Larry McDonald was one of the last ones.

FDR got the South to support him because the South was hit hard by the Depression. Once the liberals' agenda fully took over the Democratic Party, a lot of Southerners walked out.

Oh yeah, I am sure there were. I am just saying the party as a whole was no longer the party of Jefferson after the war.

Weren't there always more liberal Northern Democrats though?

Northern Democrats were Jeffersonians too, that was the reason why you were a Democrat back then.

Well, Russ Feingold was the only senate no vote on the patriot act. I don't know if he qualifies as libertarian though.

He also co-sponsored McCain-Feingold, designed to stifle free speech by making you file tedious paperwork to exercise the right.

I'd say the two least statist Dems in the House (not saying much) are Gene Taylor of Mississppi and the Dem from Idaho.
