I just assumed since he wrote the bill, we would refer to him as the SPONSOR. But, I'm not 100% sure, that's why I'm asking. I'm very informed on this bill; I'm working on a powerpoint explaining it for one of business classes.;)

I just assumed since he wrote the bill, we would refer to him as the SPONSOR. But, I'm not 100% sure, that's why I'm asking.

The best I can tell is the person who wrote and submitted the bill is the 'sponsor' and the people who put their name on the bill too afterwards as support are 'co-sponsors'.

I don't recall the name of the procedure but with enough co-sponsors, doesn't it skip committee?

Not sure about that, but I'd like to find out! Seems like CFL might "educate" us on matters such as these..... Meaning, I'm sure Ron Paul knows!

Bills in the House can only be released from committee without a proper committee vote by a discharge petition signed by a majority of the House membership (218 members).

http://www.votesmart.org/resource_govt101_02.php

Co-sponsors would likely be inclined to participate in a discharge petition, but it's not the same thing as just co-sponsoring the bill from what I can tell.

So, still at 55 co-sponsors
And RON PAUL the PRIMARY SPONSOR

Discharge Petition - A petition that if signed by a majority of the House, 218 members, requires a bill to come out of a committee and be moved to the floor of the House.

I just called my representative, Randy Neugebauer (R-TX-19), and his staff assistant told me that he doesn't know how he would vote for it since it's not on the floor. She then said that there were too many other bills that were more important. I asked that since it was currently in the House Financial Services Committee, and since he is a member of that committee, if he would consider supporting it. She replied that there were LOTS of other bills in the Committee, so probably not. Though she did turn around and say that he was looking at it, and he thought about co-sponsoring it at one point, but then went on again to say that it was low priority.

Who cares if it's "low priority?" How $#^@ing hard is it to co-sponsor a bill, it takes what, 5 seconds?!

I'd fire off an angry e-mail, fax, letter, etc!

How can we best persuade him that it's a high priority? I participate in a number of forums - some that are basically neutral politically (ie. the membership is attracted to the community via a common interest in something other than politics) yet which have lively political discussions.

I have seen tremendous support for HR 1207 in discussions covering: the Rolling Stone (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=185266) article banks operating without reserve requirements (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=186512) the Atlantic Monthly (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=186121) article

You might try highlighting these issues when telling your rep why this is a high priority for his constituents.

We should, also, be pushing for a rollcall vote, if it hits the floor...

To: Frank Wolf, (R) VA

I am writing to inquire why you have yet to join the 51 co-sponsors of HR 1207, legislation to audit the Federal Reserve?

Transparency and ACCOUNTABILITY of financial institutions is necessary in these times- more so of the biggest financial institution of all whose actions can make or break our economy.

Are you opposed to HR 1207? To transparency? To accountability? After watching you vote for the banker bailout against the wishes of your constituents (I've yet to meet a Republican voter in my area who supported that mess) I'm starting to wonder.

It was too late last election to unseat you as an incumbent. I vow, though, to work diligently to do just that in 2010 if a trend of you standing up for the people instead of banks and corporations doesn't emerge. You know the old saying, if you aren't part of the solution then you're part of the problem.

Where do you stand sir?

No, it isn't pleasant but I think this man is a snake, parading around as if he's actually 'conservative'. It's much nicer than some of my previous emails and phone calls, though.

Anyone know what a "good" amount of co-sponsors is? Is 51 High? Normal? Low?

H.R. 1207 gives anyone in the Congress and Senate the ability to see the audit information. It doesn't say the information is available to the public. Supporting this seems like a no-brainer. Why are so many dems not on board??

The Thomas website is very kewl. Look up everything by Ron Paul, he's submitted lots of good bills!!

Edit: I just had to add another comment. That Tim Geithner really chaps my hide. The Treasury Secretary should be a stand up guy, but this fellow just grates on my gut. I think it's because he came from the FR, and his fricken' arrogance. He tries to talk fast and snowball you. The congressman really should stand up to this @ss.

The Fair Tax Fraud

http://gothinkblog.com/?p=449

Thanks for posting this link, I've heard many people complain about the Fair Tax, but haven't seen any good arguments against it so far. I should clarify that by "good", I mean arguments that show the FairTax as being inferior to the current system rather than arguments that show the FairTax to be the ideal system. I haven't read it yet, but I notice that the article was written in 2005 and wonder if the bill has been changed at all since then.

On a side note, the Fair Tax had 72 cosponsors last year:

Well I just got a response from my Democrat Congressman. Adler (NJ)

Congressman Adler will support the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 when it comes up for a vote.

So he is not interested in co-sponsoring it but if it somehow gets out of committee they claim he will vote for it.
