Dear Congressman,

I am writing as a concerned citizen of (state)’s (number) Congressional District to ask you to consider co-sponsoring H.R. 1207, the “Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009.” While a lot of emphasis has been placed on the transparency of banks and insurance companies through regulation and oversight, the Federal Reserve is still exempt from a formal audit. The citizens of (state)’s (number) District, whose tax dollars are on the line, deserve to know where money is coming from and going at all stages.

31USC§714 currently reads:

Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal reserve banks may not include—
(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;
(3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
(4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)–(3) of this subsection.

In other words, the Federal Reserve is held to no accountability whatsoever! H.R. 1207 would eliminate these restrictions, allowing citizens to see the actions of the Fed and to demand accountability for the use of their tax dollars.

Please consider co-sponsoring and supporting H.R. 1207, and help bring transparency to every facet of the use of our tax dollars. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

E-mail everyone you know:

Please forward this on to everyone you know. While Congress demands more oversight of banks, insurance companies, auto makers, and anyone else who receives federal funds, the Federal Reserve has no oversight whatsoever. With a national debt of around $11 trillion (NOT including future obligations via Social Security and other programs), the Federal Reserve has increased the monetary base at a rate never before seen in history. Shouldn't "We the People" have a right to know what the Federal Reserve is doing with our tax dollars?

H.R. 1207, recently introduced to the House floor by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, would remove the restrictions that make a formal audit of the Federal Reserve impossible. Attached to this e-mail is a form letter to send to your Representative asking for his/her support of H.R. 1207. The text of the letter is also below. Please fax this letter to your Congressman (his/her fax number can easily be found via the House website or through a quick Google search). An e-mail can be ignored; a phone call only lasts a few minutes; a fax is a hard copy that will be in their office.

Please forward this e-mail to everyone you know!

Thanks,

Contact Glenn Beck asking him to report on H.R. 1207 ("me@glennbeck.com", "stu@glennbeck.com"):

Glenn,

I am writing to ask you to feature a segment on your show (television or radio) on H.R. 1207 - the "Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009." It was mentioned by Ron Paul on your show several weeks ago, and after reading more about it, I think it is something that the audience of your show would be inclined to hear more about. While many members of Congress clamor about oversight of the banks and companies that receive bailout money, they should be concerned about the lack of transparency of the Federal Reserve - the organization with a monopoly on our country's money supply.

31USC§714 currently reads:

Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal reserve banks may not include—
(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;
(3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
(4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)–(3) of this subsection.

Basically, the Federal Reserve is not held accountable for any of its actions. As taxpayers, we deserve to know where our tax money is coming from and going, and the level of currency debasement that we all may face with irresponsible monetary policy. H.R. 1207 would remove these restrictions and allow for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to seeing/hearing about H.R. 1207 on your show!

Live in Colorado? Download a petition asking your Rep to support HR 1207! http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=187020

I live in Colorado and we have seven Representatives in the US House. None of them are currently a co-sponsor of Ron Paul's Audit the Fed bill. I want them to support and cosponsor the bill now, and I want you to help me convince them.

At the linked page below are petitions you can download, print out, gather signatures with, and then turn in to your own representatives office. These petitions are asking each of the representatives individually to cosponsor H.R. 1207 and make every effort to seek roll call votes.

You can download the right PDF file for the district you live in and either print up one page and get a few signatures from you, your friends, and families and fax it in, or, print up multiple pages and go out into your neighborhood or in front of a grocery store and gather pages of signatures and mail them in. Or do something in between.

The product of this private business, is legal tender ;)

I think all businesses that either fund, or take funds from government should be 100% transparent.

I've seen Griffin's speech many times.

Here's the defintion from dictionary.com:

"A combination of independent business organizations formed to regulate production, pricing, and marketing of goods by the members."

The banking business deals with financial products versus physical products, but it's still a business. Wells Fargo, BofA, etc., etc. are all privately run businesses. This banking cartel is a group of these businesses, with the Federal Reserve as the top controller. I know many here hold dear the rights of private property owners and/or private business to do what they want. I'm just asking my question to see if they find any conflict in their thinking, or how they justify private property rights versus their support for The Transparency Bill.

Regulate the Government Instead

In the aftermath of the financial crisis, the cries have been loud and frequent – more transparency, more oversight, and more accountability from the nation’s banks and financial institutions. These cries have not been partisan protests: both sides of the aisle have made similar complaints. The GOP, with its outcries for clarity over who the TARP funds are being given to; and the Democrats, with their outcries of stricter lending standards and more stringent regulation of the financial system, are largely in the same boat. What has largely gone unnoticed in all this mess, however, is that the Federal Reserve cannot be audited.

You read that right – cannot be audited. It’s legally impossible. Title 31, Section 714 of the U.S. Code forbids the audit of the Federal Reserve for a whole host of things. Among them are “transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization” (sic). Shouldn’t the American taxpayers have the right to know if their money – and yes, even if it was printed, it is still their money – is going to foreign governments? Speaking of moral hazards, wouldn’t that be the mother of all moral hazards, to have our government owned and run by foreign interests?

Why, when conservatives and liberals alike are clamoring to know where their tax dollars are going, are they not focused on removing this stipulation? Why, if we are going to regulate the private sector, would we not regulate the Federal Reserve as well?

The Federal Reserve, which has complete control of this country’s money supply, has increased the monetary base at unprecedented rates. They have made the bailouts possible (or “stimulus,” if you prefer) by effectively printing the money to back the banks and other institutions they deem “too big to fail.” They have effectively lowered interest rates to 0%, allowing banks to borrow for free to cover their reserve requirements. Why should these powers – in essence, the power to control our entire economy, picking winners in the process – be concentrated in the hands of unelected officials with no oversight or accountability whatsoever?

Fortunately, a House resolution was introduced last month. The bill is H.R. 1207, otherwise known as the “Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009.” The bill, introduced by Rep. Ron Paul (TX-14), has already garnered 49 co-sponsors since its introduction to the House chamber last month. Plus, unlike the “emergency” measures passed earlier this session (if there was any time for people to co-sponsor it at all), this bill was probably read by all of its co-sponsors. In fact, it has fewer words than this article that you’re reading right now. All H.R. 1207 would do would remove the restrictions on an audit of the Federal Reserve, and require an audit by 2010.

It’s time to see whether the Republicans on Capitol Hill mean what they say about holding the recipients of TARP money accountable. It’s time to see whether the Democrats, led by a president who ran on a platform of being a “government outsider” and opening up the government to the people, are true to their word. It’s time to see whether there will be change, real change, in Washington – or if it’s more of the same, politicians pandering to get votes and doing little to actually solve the problem. Demand accountability for your tax dollars. Write your representative in support of H.R. 1207.

Not necessarily. There needs to be "significant support" for the bill to bring it to a hearing before the committee, and that is at the discretion of the committee chair (Barney Frank). Frank isn't likely to get behind this thing anytime soon, so to be on the safe side, yeah, we should try to get a majority of them co-sponsoring it if possible.

This also serves as a bump...Ron Paul has NEVER passed legislation that he has introduced! Please do everything possible to get your Rep (or others) to co-sponsor this bill - this is a bill that could (potentially) lead to the downfall of the Federal Reserve! Push H.R. 1207 down their throats! :D

Since the Federal Reserve is a private banking business, does anyone see any conflict with transparency of a private business, with private property rights?

FF

No. Because the Congress has delegated to it unconstitutional powers. Like if they passed a bill that said Bank of America can waterboard people. And then they did. And the cops were not allowed to investigate. And they used your tax money to do it. And they did it to your family and friends.

malkusm,

I was just coming to this thread to post about Markey becoming a sponsor. Our group has been working hard on getting her to support this bill. Just last week there were two articles in our only daily paper in Fort Collins about HR 1207.

Great work! I appreciate the resources for the OP - hard to believe how far we've come. If I remember right, no Reps from CO had signed on when I first added the petition & video, and Markey makes 5 out of the 7 :)

If you do something similar for the Senate version of the bill let me know, I'll add it to my other thread.
