While everyone is watching North Korea, India has test fired a supersonic cruise missle and has plans to go hypersonic very soon. Watch the bouncing ball land in Pakistan.

India successfully test fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile
RIA Novosti

29/03/2009 13:45 NEW DELHI, March 29 (RIA Novosti) - India has successfully tested the latest land attack version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile at a firing range in Pokhran, a spokesman for Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace Limited said Sunday.

The spokesman said that the missile had successfully hit its designated target.

The BrahMos missile has a range of 290 km (180 miles) and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg (660 lbs). It can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 meters (30 feet) and has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is about three times faster than the U.S.-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.

Analysts estimate that India could purchase up to 1,000 BrahMos missiles for its armed forces in the next decade, and export 2,000 to other countries during the same period.

During a recent visit by Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov to India, the two sides agreed to develop a hypersonic version of the missile to be known as BrahMos-2.

I always thought the cruise missle was the most dangerous weapon. Hugs the land, small in size (relatively speaking), fast, hard or impossible to shoot down, deployed by land air or sea, and can carry conventional or nuke payloads and has long range capabilities.

Nothing new here, BrahMos missiles have been tested and DEPLOYED for years now. India has many destroyers and some missile cruisers with them setup and ready to fire around the world.
They are focused on the Indian Ocean(of course) and the Middle East area around Somalia right now.

Everyone has Plans to build Hypersonic cruise missiles. It doesn't mean they can or will.

India also has plans for a Moon Base. Right after they actually put someone into orbit.
