doesn't matter much.... everyone on the Internet figured out how to hack that poll.

I trust we will try to play fair, again...

I was glad to see people were watching the Romneybots and beat them at their own game.

Yes - Only vote once..
...unless the Jon Huntsman supporters cheat. (Who is Jon Huntsman, anyway?)

Vote just once....unless it becomes obvious that there is some "retaliation spamming" from bitter Romney and Huckabee bots. Keep a look out.

Haha, Ken Rudin (whoever he is) picked Romney over Paul.

Fail.

Just a suggestion...vote on other races as well.

I picked Pence over Ryan (Pence voted against TARP both times).

Demint over Pawlenty...DeMint seems principled and Pawlenty is a RINO that wants to recruit "Sam's Club Republicans" with RINO (and new NYT Op-Ed writer) Ross Douthat.

Sanford over Crist...well Sanford's is Sanford and Crist is Crist ;) Though to be fair Crist has a good reputation for not raising taxes and I believe got the highest grade in a Cato report card. He muffed it up by begging for Stimulus dollars.

So how do we vote when it comes down to Sanford vs Paul?

I'm going with Sanford on this one.

But what to make of the results? One point four million votes in Paul v. Romney?

A lot of readers have theories. And a lot have to do with ballot-stuffing by the Ron Paul folks.

Now, in fairness, I never said "only one vote per person." So no "rules" were violated, other than fair play.

Here's a sample of e-mails from those complaining of the tactics of the Paul supporters.

A reader from Japan wrote: "Here is a link to a Ron Paul supporter website where they are discussing how to ruin your poll by cheating and voting multiple times." Indeed, the headline at this link at DailyPaul.com reads, "NPR Poll -- Ron Paul LOSING to Mitt Romney. You know what to do!"

A reader from Mead, Colo., wrote: "The Ron Paul crowd is using scripts to vote thousands of times in the March madness poll. Here are the instructions they posted at ronpaulforums.com. I took a snapshot as proof."

A reader from Storrs, Conn.: "I was really excited about who was going to win your pool, but it's clear that the Ron Paul people are rigging the process. Not only are they stuffing the ballot, but they are voting to eliminate the rest of the competition: Huckabee and Palin, for example. Your poll is now worthless."

And another reader from Texas adds, "It's pretty obvious at this point that Ron Paul will win the entire bracket you've set up for the 2012 Republican race. This poll has clearly been overrun by Ron Paulians. They excel at this sort of thing. Unfortunately for Paul they don't do much more than on-line stuff and that's why he was never any threat in any of the primaries last year."

I'm of two minds when it comes to this. Let's face it, a "March Madness" pool in March of 2009 about the 2012 GOP presidential nomination is either silly or, as I like to put it, fun. If the Ron Paul people are excited enough to delete computer cookies so they can vote multiple times, well, so what. Can a tainted process make a meaningless poll even more meaningless?

But, at the same time, it is a bit disappointing.

we can try to put all of that behind us

Ron Paul already has ~20x more votes than everyone else.....

I honestly think Romney people are macroing to vote Ron Paul.

Someone with a NPR account make a comment in the latest March Madness post about how RP folks weren't spamming until they noticed the Romney people starting it, with votes coming in at a ridiculous rate. Point them to the other thread with the screenshots of the Romney site and real-time discussion over it. I'd do it myself but I'm swamped with work and only have time for this post.

It needs to be pointed out that Paul was winning fair and square before any shenanigans started.

If someone does this, please post the graph; it's undeniable what happened here. If the 0:00 in the graph indicates time, being midnight, it should be apparent that a spike like that is extraordinarily unlikely.

Hmmm... I don't think there's any chance of Huntsman's groupies (????) using macros to de-legitimize our race. How about we re-legitimize it by macroing support for other candidates (and purposely ignoring Ron Paul) so Ron's race looks relatively normal?

The methods used in retaliation before are unable to work with the new poll, so it's not us. Only someone with the old macro'ing methods could be doing it; I hope it's not romney supporters, as I would like to think that they wouldn't do that again.

By the way, I'm about to vote and I'm not sure who Pence/Ryan are. Does anyone have an opinion about who would be best there?

The how do you explain the garbage already going on in the poll today? I'm washing my hands of this. I will NOT be emailing everyone I know to go and vote. The grassroots excitement we could have had about this has been stolen, just as our votes have. Whoever you are, you are no friend of the liberty movement.

my comment as I leave for the airport...

I am a moderator on one of the largest Paul sites. I was alerted to this poll by the Huckabee grassroots (whom we have a decent relationship with). Because of my postion in the community I have access to some very large lists and sent out an alert...

On our forum, we had a few posters (whether they are Paul supporters is questionable) promoting macros, the overwhelming response was NOOOOOO!!!! We deleted instructions and even brought out the ban-hammer (which is rare on our site) Then, the Romneybots were caught redhanded (we have the screenshots) and all bets were off. Romney people stuffed ballot boxes during the 2008 campaign (and were caught doing it, (A retired FBI agent even filed a lawsuit), so there is little concern for them; however there is a concern that the very large and real support network for the r3VOLution will be written off as "spammers"

The new round is up and the calls for NO MACROS!!! is loud and clear. However, if we detect macros from the competition...

Thanks for the poll, it is fun :)

Pawlenty's basically a RINO

A Pawlenty vs Paul finale would be great, because it would seem more "legit" to the masses. If it's Ron against someone nobody has heard of, it will seem irrelevant.
