Maher: Glenn Beck Is Dangerous, Like Tim McVeigh [Greg Pollowitz (http://media.nationalreview.com/author/?q=NDIxNA==)]
I finished the Real Time podcast on the way to work this morning. Toward the end, the discussion turns to Glenn Beck at Fox News and how dangerous he is. Dangerous as in comparing him and his new hit show to Timothy McVeigh and to the guy who shot up a Tennessee church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knoxville_Unitarian_Universalist_church_shooting). Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch were also singled out and called irresponsible for putting him on the air. Since Beck is saying the same kind of stuff on Fox as he did on Headline News, I guess that makes CNN irresponsible as well? Unbelievable.
And what's really odd about this is that Bill Maher, who speaks about legalizing drugs on just about every show, and Glenn Beck pretty much agree on that issue. You also won't find Beck as any great defender of President Bush over the past eight years. Here's an excerpt from a Daily Beast interview with Beck from a few days ago (http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-03-17/glenn-beck-on-why-hes-no-rush-limbaugh/4/):
How angry does it make you that AIG is using our money to pay $165 million in bonuses to their ill-begotten executives?
It makes me insane because George Bush shouldn’t have given that money to AIG in the first place. Now we have to care about what their contracts with their people say. Now I’m mad at George Bush and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd making this deal. But I can’t believe that Barack Obama wants to break the contract. What are you talking about? You’ve got a contract. Now if that’s what the government is going to do, saying that they have the right to terminate contracts, well, you’ve got to shut the pie hole on it. It’s one or the other. You can’t just start breaking contracts. If you want to do that, that’s why you let businesses fail.
It’s not our contract with AIG, the people’s contract with AIG. It’s AIG’s contracts with its executives.
They made those deals with their employees. How could you possibly back out of the AIG contract because it’s popular? It’s a legal contract.
You’ve also come out for the legalization of marijuana if, under the circumstances, we’re not going to enforce the marijuana laws federally, is that right?
You know what I can’t stand? I can’t stand inconsistency. It’s not about politics for me, it’s about consistency. If we have a problem with drugs at the border, and we’re not going to seriously take on the user, and we’re not going to enforce our own borders, well then, what are we doing?
Would you extend that to other controlled substances?
Look, I’m a libertarian. The problem is that we are so far away from being a society that understands self-regulation, it would be an absolute meltdown at this point. We’re going in the wrong direction. We’ve got to wean ourselves off of government and start regulating ourselves. That’s the same thing with the free-market system. You let people live with the results, good or bad. It’ll fix itself.
What really scares the pants off of liberals when you mention Glenn Beck is how fast his show on Fox has become a hit (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/). (Actually, it's how fast liberals realized he's a hit. His audience has existed and has been developed over many years.) He's not a predictable conservative, but a libertarian. And his libertarian views are appealing to a type of voter that Democrats have been courting since 2006. The left even invented a new term for these voters called "Libertarian Democrats." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_Democrat) The problem, of course, is that this new Libertarian Democrat is attracted much more to Glenn Beck's philosophy on government that President Obama's and unless liberals can kill the Glenn Beck baby in the bassinet, he's going to be a factor in the 2010 and 2012 election.

Anyone still have doubts that Maher is a tool? And don't you just love this proxy war between these talking heads? What are they trying to do, make it look like Beck has some wounds so we'll trust him?

Insane.

LOL(dead on: proxy war)...and the only intelligent thing to do is to distance oneself from all of it. It is a distraction to villify and antagonize parties into infighting, as tptb achieve the final stages of global control. If Beck was so perceptive and a thoughtful Christian concerned about the current state of the country, he would start to look at who is paying his bills. No man can serve two masters...

Ugh...Just read the op through. Beck is a warm-monger and libertarians cannot , to my understanding, be a warm-monger as it cuts to the soul of no use of force. So guess Fox and tptb are achieving full circle on making sure to convolute the interpretation of the libertarian label. This is insane...

Beck is obviously following the same agenda as all the other media.

The Chinese have learned after the Tiananmen Square incident that it is important to let some dissent out, occasionally, and in a very controlled manner. That's just what Beck is doing -- providing an outlet for those who feel anger and disenchantment with government. But really he is just leading people to go off a cliff.

The left just doesn't like that the rest of us are gaining momentum. It threatens their marxist ideology. They hate the fact that they no longer have complete control over the airwaves.

Folks, Glenn Beck isn't your enemy. Take off the tin foil hats.

you know what it is. this is a very cliquish forum...there are some real sheep on here. They follow the unspoken leaders and I won't name names...but you can figure it out. Everything has to be perceived as "cool". Glenn Beck isn't "cool"...this is just immature. I am SO over that sort of thing. TOnes

You mean the same Bill Maher who used to call himself a libertarian?

Bill Maher to Harry Browne: "You're my guy"..."Would I vote for Harry? Absolutely I would." (then he went on to vote for Ralph Nader).

Like Glenn Beck does now? (look for a similar about face when it comes to actions instead of words)

That's my concern with Glenn as well. We don't have to rehash how he ambushed Paul during before the primaries with his trash. Now he loves the Libertarian speak.

I could care less if Glenn Beck is "cool" or not, only if he's legit. It wasn't long ago that Bill Maher was supporting Ron Paul and Glenn Beck was the one throwing around the illegitimate "terrorist" charges. Now that the Whitehouse has flipped from Republican to Democrat Beck and Maher have flipped their roles. I'm cautiously optimistic that Beck is sincere since I have heard him now in retrospect criticizing the previous administration and even criticize the idea that we have to give up "freedom for security" whether that security is physical or economic. I'm just not 100% sold yet on Beck yet.

Regardless he is clearly helping us now so I'll take that at face value.

How many times have you said yourself that he shouldn't be trusted, yet you keep popping up in other threads miraculously back at square one? Use the tool where he's useful but don't play him up as trustworthy--who said otherwise?

I don't recall ever saying he shouldn't be trusted. I said even if it turns out he isn't sincere, which I don't see happening, he's getting the message across to those who won't listen to Ron Paul...therefore, is doing something worthwhile. TOnes

Beck really turned after TARP. This woke up everyone, including myself. The exposed shenanigans with TARP really gave credence to the NWO theory. Let me reiterate that I never believed in nation buildng to start with, but I was skeptical of the NWO language before this blatant redistribution of wealth.

I'm one of those...shall we say...numbnuts that has been watching Glenn Beck for about 2 years now. I am here to tell you, while certain of his messages have been consistent, he has most definitely evolved into more of a freedom lover than you may realize. I wouldn't doubt, if in the not so-distant future, he doesn't start to shows signs of fatigue by this and the last administrations' so-called foreign policies.

If his pro-war stance is the only thing that turns some of you people off, then work on him, in a nice way. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Anyone who has seen his show lately HAS to admit that he speaks what we think more than any other MSM pundit out there.

When Ron Paul was getting the shaft by the MSM during the campaign, all we did was piss and moan about how crappy coverage was. Some of us made the effort to 'enlighten' certain members of the media on an almost daily basis. In the case of Glenn Beck, I think it took. And now others are joining the bandwagon. And Ron Paul has more respect (usually) and more exposure than ever. If he thought what some of the anarchistic tin foil hat members of our movement thought about the media, I doubt he would be wasting his time doing interviews.

What ever happened to respect is earned not given. Glenn Beck called us terrorist! Granted he has changed on a few of his positions but either way. Some are treating this guy like he has some how redeemed himself. Right now he stands to benefit greatly by changing a few positions, just as most of the pundits do. You can't champion common sense after you have showed you contain none.:D Some people here need to learn how deception works, he only changed his positions after the election. Sort of like the candidates.

Spoken like someone who clearly has not been keeping up with what GB has been covering lately. Ron Paul has been on his show numerous times since the "terrorist" comment. And besides, some idiot in the lunatic fringe of this movement apparently tried to run his bus off the road back then because they didn't like his criticisms of RP. I think they're terrorists too! If RP forgives him, why won't you? Haven't you ever done someone harm and then regretted it and tried to make amends? Or are MSM pundits not allowed to ever make bad decisions or mistakes?

Actually I do keep up with him I just keep a bit of separation and skepticism. Yes I am a very forgiving person indeed and can understand mistakes. However I have notice a wave of change from the likes of hannity, beck, and limbaugh. It sort of lacks sincerity though. Just keep in mind "fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you". It's to easy right now to say what they want they are not in power any more.
