I don't like the sound of this at all. Basically, they are giving border security increased power to search your devices and copy your files. Fuck that. How the hell are they even going to know whether or not anyone's files are illegal anyway? From the man who supported FISA, can we really be so surprised? And props to Russia Today for covering this. I'm liking them more and more all the time - they cover Ron Paul, the End the Fed rallies, gold suppression, and now this.

Russia kicked out the international bankers already. They nationalized the banks but they collect revenue in lieu of some taxes, so it works out. That's why the media hates Putin so much.

Obama cannot pass a law, he can only sign a law congress passes.

Just encrypt your stuff.

The P2P community will just come up with smarter ways. I've been reading about encrypted IP addresses so no one on either side can see who the other is.

Sucks if trying to bring your laptop with you into an airport though. Have any movies on there that you want to watch for your flight, you're screwed.

Fucking corporations...aren't you rich enough?

Hopefully the young Obamatrons revolt.

Yeah that's what I thought. I remember reading about this when bush was president.

I'm pretty sure the founders would have considered electronic data in the same way as personal papers and effects.

The Obamatrons are saying this is BS because they've never heard of "Russia Today" before.

My pirated stuff! Noooooooo!

And if the Obamabots haven't heard of RT, then they can just Google it, or download LiveStation and watch it free.

Doesn't appear that he has passed it yet, gang.

Looks to me that someone got hold of the Russia Today video and for some reason, it went viral.

Still, people do need to understand this treaty is out there, and the implications it presents under the 4th amendment.

here's another article on ACTA:
"Obama administration won't release secret ACTA docs either"
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/03/were-not-releasing-acta-docs-says-us-again.ars

Governments have repeatedly indicated that ACTA will focus on large-scale infringement and will not focus on creating iPod-scanning border guards. (The meme has become so pervasive that the EU has gone out of its way to specifically say that's not on the table. "EU customs, frequently confronted with traffics of drugs, weapons or people, do neither have the time nor the legal basis to look for a couple of pirated songs on an i-Pod music player or laptop computer, and there is no intention to change this," it says.)

But leaked drafts of the bill do suggest a push for stronger copyright laws, including the criminalization of noncommercial P2P sharing done on a "commercial scale." And helpful suggestions from Big Content have been far more terrifying. Without knowing what's going into the bill, and with lobbyists gaining access to the drafting process while the public is left outside in the cold, groups like KEI are worried.
