The internet is one of the most successful inventions that came from a gov't program (wasn't it ARPANET?) although the commercial market has taken it far from it's original design to freely being able to access an immeasureable amount of info and personal interaction amoung individuals with somewhat limited regulation (although there seems to be quite a push for more lately.)

It seems that the internet allows more people the ability to freely communicate and recieve instantaneous feedback with many, many others at one time than any other medium. You are definitely more free to associate/dissociate with people in anonymity.

You could basically break it down to voluntary association unbound by geographical boundaries and the ability for anyone to do so within the reach of a computer and an internet connection further fascilitating the expansion of ideas and the whole of society one individual at a time. ;)

The internet is the pinnacle of freedom and capitalism in my opinion. You can find pretty much anything you want, but it wasn't all planned out by a central authority. Anyone can create a website and make money off of it and there's very little regulation as to what you can and can't put on the internet. Barriers to entry are very low so there's never really a monopoly on one subject or another. Copycats crop up everyday but still manage to be successful (how many video sites do we really need).

Imagine how easy and productive that would make the real world. Want to start a bar? Just buy some cases of beer and sell them in your garage. Even less shady, get some bottled water and sell them to thirsty drivers at intersections. Just like any internet business, some people have to take risks by trusting the business until it works up some credibility. There's no real need for government to spy on internet businesses to make sure they're not selling crappy products or ripping off buyers.

Net Neutrality wouldn't be as big of an issue if it was called by it's more appropriate title: Paying For Extra-Bandwith

Decentralised Freedom. Spontaneous Organisation. Free Choice.

These are the magic aspects of liberty.
