As a Canadian once pointed out to me on Yahoo Answers, socialism only works if *everybody* participates.

So it must actually be the fault of the other 49 states. :)

What is Mitt "I Like Mandates" Romney saying about it?

They should have done what Keynes said, and just spent more money! Something wrong? Spend money, it's a cure all!

Got AIDS? Grind up 100 dollar bills and inject them into your bloodstream! Have a Depression on your hands? Print money and give it to the bankers? Got a backache? Fashion a back brace out of money! Easy as it can be!

That Canadian on Yahoo Answers obviously hasn't heard of the Socialist Insecurity system in the States.

Socialism "works" for a while and then it collapses.

UHC is still going in the rest of the civilised world.

First, they force you into mandated insurance.

"Those who do not enroll but are deemed able to afford insurance can be fined up to $1,068 in the 2009 tax year."

Then they take away your benefits

"...the state and federal governments may need to place actual limits on health spending, which could lead to rationing of care."

So if you want to be sure that you can get care, your best bet (or maybe even your only bet) would be to opt out of the system, pay the fine and seek out a doctor who will accept cash AND provide treatment.

That is if you have the cash to begin with.

Socialism doesn't equate to being civilized. We'll see how long that lasts when the socialist programs can no longer sustain themselves when funding dries up due to the global depression.

Besides, the USA government spends more money on healthcare than any other socialist nation, and yet, we have the highest prices for medical expenses. Go figure:rolleyes:

UHC is still going in the rest of the civilised world.

Propped up largely by our system and our capitalist money.

I don't think that's true, I think it's around the $100-$200 range.

UHC is still going in the rest of the civilised world.

And none of it is attempted on the scale required to cover the entire U.S. And no one attempts it in the U.S. where Big Pharma controls more than half the legislators with massive campaign contributions, either. Except Taxachussetts, of course.

And we see what a fine example it is. How to go broke in one easy lesson. Thanks, Mitt.
