The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms.

The Third Amendment prohibits the government from quartering troops in private homes, a major grievance during the American Revolution.

The Fourth Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizure. The government may not conduct any searches without a warrant, and such warrants must be issued by a judge and based on probable cause.

The Fifth Amendment provides that citizens not be subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process. Citizens may not be tried on the same set of facts twice, and are protected from self-incrimination (the right to remain silent). The amendment also establishes the power of eminent domain, ensuring that private property is not seized for public use without just compensation.

The Sixth Amendment assures the right to a speedy trial by a jury of one's peers, to be informed of the crimes with which they are charged, and to confront the witnesses brought by the government. The amendment also provides the accused the right to compel testimony from witnesses, and to legal representation.

The Seventh Amendment provides that civil cases also be tried by jury.

The Eighth Amendment prohibits excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.

The Ninth Amendment states that the list of rights enumerated in the Constitution is not exhaustive, and that the people retain all rights not enumerated.

The Tenth Amendment assigns all powers not delegated to the United States, or prohibited to the states, to either the states or to the people.

If Ron Paul were on this site, right now, this would be the first thing he would jump on. The fact that the readers online haven't tells me this is different crowd than during the primaries.

This is VERY disturbing shit. The page was put there there to MISLEAD AND LIE. The Obamatards will trust what they read.

Go to the nearest populated street and initiate a conversation with the first adult you see.

Ask them to name as many of the first 10 amendments as they can.

Then you will realize what someone at white house has apparently realized.

This. If someone wants to put in the time to actually read the Constitution (which I don't imagine holds much relevancy to their lives unless they're looking to become a lawyer/judge or are fascinated by politics), there are many sources which offer the Constitution and all of its amendments in full. For those looking for a quick 5 minute lesson giving the important (to citizens) summaries of amendments, this is a great resource.

Ideally, everyone would be able to recite the entire Constitution and all amendments, but I don't believe it to be realistic to assume that any "normal" person would want to invest the time (and frankly, I doubt it would benefit them to put in the time).

Exactly right. The Obama demographic is the target audience. The mass sheeple, if you will.

The second amendment gives people the right to own guns?

Disgusting language! The Constitution wasn't written to tell the people what they could and couldn't do. It was written to target and restrict the government. It is a directive to the government: "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

It is amazing how a simple change in a word or phrase can go from a re-affirmation of inalienable rights to a system of mere privileges to be revoked at whim.

heres what I am going to do:

I have about 30 constitutions left... I am going to take them to work with me today, (a large retail store) I am going to start conversations with as many people as possible and tell them "the obama administration has put the bill of rights on the whitehouse.g0v website but doctored it horribly. Here is your free copy of the constitution and bill of rights so you have a hard copy of the truth in your hands"

(and frankly, I doubt it would benefit them to put in the time).

Are you kidding? Can you imagine an entire population educated on the Bill of Rights? It wouldn't take much time to teach the principles of the constitution in Elementary school, and i think it would benefit a nation greatly to know where their rights came from.

It'd be much harder to lull everyone to sleep when you can point out the fundamentals of the constitution, and actually have them understand it.

Here's your "simpified" Bill of Rights.

Thomas Jefferson described the Tenth Amendment as “the foundation of the Constitution” and added, “to take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn … is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition.”

In the paragraph preceding the "synopsis" of the BoR, they mention "civil" rights. ANOTHER TOTAL LIE, with an entirely different meaning.

That assumes people will care about the Constitution, or what the Founders had to say. I was taught the concept of natural rights three or four times throughout my K-12 education, with teachers who would defend the concept quite rabidly. I even had an anarchist English/Oral Communications teacher...

IOW, I don't believe the fault to be ignorance, but... Idunno... Apathy?? -- Inability to relate it to their lives?? I don't see how dead white Founders of U.S. government could possibly bore people...

It would be more polite to say his ideas are retarded.

He may not have made the connection that diminishing the actually text of the constitution is used to diminish the authority of the law.
By re-wording it in dumbed down language, they have turned it into a 'feel good' guide... but not really the law.

I would rather see the Obama administration post a quick synopsis of the Constitution on their web site than not post anything about it at all.

A quick synopsis is one thing, changing how rights are established is another. The government does not give you the right to do anything. You are born with rights and the job of the constitution is to restrain the power of government from taking those rights away from you.

I would rather have them post nothing, than to have them turn the constitution on its head and get it back asswards. Just goes to show how much they understand the constitution. It is a matter of great importance of where rights are established. You are either born with them or they are granted to you. When rights are granted to you, you are nothing more than a slave.

I posted this to FB earlier with the following comment

I am wondering what people think of the re-write here, "The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms." Funny, I thought the second amendment prohibits the general gov't from infringing on our natural right to defend ourselves. The constitution does not "give" us anything, it merely states that which "shall not be infringed" The danger here is that people who think the USConstitution "gives" us a right will think that the constitution could be amended to take away that right.

Further, the ommission of the phrase "A well regulated militia, being _necessary_ to the security of a free state" is another indication of how much that phrase scares the tyrannical traitors perpertrating this madness.
This MUST not stand!!!

Out of all the stuff I've seen from the Obama administration so far, this is just...there are no words.

If they don't immediately replace this, and leave it up there, this is a literal constitutional crisis in the making. These people need to be impeached RIGHT NOW, and replaced with people a) not corrupted by Wall Street money and socialist tendencies, b) who care about the oldest common laws of the nation.

Everything we're seeing from them makes me conclude they are worse than the Bush administration by far.

And if Pelosi thinks that Obama and Biden being kicked out of the White House makes her President, she is sorely mistaken.

Actually, I'd say call your Representatives DEMANDING the correct one replace that travesty IMMEDIATELY.

Also, I'd have someone from the Campaign for Liberty contact the NRA about the way that the 2nd Amendment is being broadcast here, just for added political clout.
Omitting "shall not be infringed" is a BIG DEAL.

Otherwise, its likely we'll see this version at some point:

The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. The demands of all religious groups must be met without exception, as long as said religious group surrenders its tax-exempt status.

The Second Amendment gives the citizens the right to call the police in order to defend themselves, unless you are a terrorist suspect.

The Third Amendment prohibits citizens from refusing to surrender access to their home to troops, police officers and Civil Protection.

The Fourth Amendment protects members of Congress and the Senate from unreasonable search and seizure. According to the Fairness Doctrine, they must be informed of potential searches 24 hours in advance.

The Fifth Amendment provides that members of Congress and the Senate not be subject to criminal prosecution or punishment.

The Sixth Amendment assures the right to a trial, unless you are a terrorist suspect.

The Seventh Amendment provides that all cases be tried by a state-authorized judge to expedite efficient imprisonment and fines, unless you are a terrorist suspect.

The Eighth Amendment prohibits excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments, unless you are a terrorist suspect.

The Ninth Amendment states that the list of civil rights enumerated in the Constitution is not exhaustive; Congress retains the right to amend the Constitution at will.

The Tenth Amendment assigns all power to the President and the Congress, to be delegated to the states as they see fit.
