Nancy Pelosi and her thugs wield the tax hammer on injustice.

Fuck these politicians. If they didn't want AIG paying out all these bonuses, they shouldn't have bailed them out in the first place.

Isn't this ridiculously unconstitutional? A Bill of Attainder?? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_of_attainder)

Yep, it's unconstitutional (IMHO). That usually doesn't stop TPTB, though. :(:p

Seeing a dangerous precedent being established here with regards to the government's perceived powers to tax whomever they please for any reason they please...this action against AIG will doubtless gain public approval for them to exploit later when they start to lay down the tax hammer even harder on people losing their homes and businesses.

Please note:

"A tax expert said there is plenty of precedent for levying punitive taxes on behavior that lawmakers find objectionable."

Yes there was precedent - and the last time it occurred, the Founding Fathers engineered a revolution to shake off the oppressive government that did so.

I'm sensing that the Obama administration and Congress are desperately tossing people under the bus to appease rising public anger.

If they can do it to a little group of AIG execs, they can do it to any one of us with a stroke of a pen.

Yes the AIG bonuses were fucked up, but mob-rule from the sociopaths in Congress is far worse in my opinion.

That's my greatest concern.

Also noticing other verbiage that I really don't like the look of, such as "the political appeal of the legislation apparently won the day".

It's honestly amazing that the Republicans and the Democrats can squabble about claiming the moral high ground over this bill.

It needs to be brought before the supreme court. The bailouts are unconstitutional and this is WAAAY unconstitutional. We have got to throw these people out of office.

No, sirree. Last fall voters practically shut down the phones and email against the bailout. They did not listen and passed it without reading it. So now they have to own this. They have to come home and face the voters.

I have my congressman and senators linked on my desktop. One calls himself a Blue Dog Democrat. The other two are Republicans. With that in mind, please allow me to say that we should not have to keep dragging them back to the Constitution, kicking and screaming. If they don't know what liberty lovers think by now, maybe they should pack up their Hello Kitty backpacks and ride their little tricycles home. I'm so sick of babysitting my elected representatives I could just throw up.

This little hissy fit was sponsored by the bailout and the stagnation package.

The question now becomes how much more will America take of this? Crap like this is what caused the American Revolution. At what point will this cause a massive backlash that the government can't quell? It would almost be comical if it weren't happening to us.

Legal, illegal, who cares? This whole situation is screwed up from the start. AIG should have never gotten bailed out. The execs should have never gotten bonuses. and the Tax is just RUDE "because we can".
There is no part of this that is not FUBAR.

Holy shit, why the fuck are they punishing the employees who got bonuses? Someone offers me 1 mill I'ma fucking take it.

The people who should be punished are the bastards in the government who gave them OUR money. The same ones that are enacting bullshit like this.

I thought that the government isn't supposed to single out any one group...?

EDIT: Not that I ever thought they'd follow the law or anything.

Well at least we know now what "Yes We Can" was really about.

Can we give away trillions of taxpayer dollars, with no recourse?
YES WE CAN!

Can we double the deficit in our first few months of office?
YES WE CAN!

Can we pass an unconstitutional bill to impose a punitive tax?
YES WE CAN!

I'm genuinely concerned for the future of my daughter's freedoms in this country.

Your right, probably won't just screw one group. Gonna destroy us all. I'm just surprised at how fast it is. I figure they'd at least have the tact to try and sneak it by us.

Considering the hundreds of taxes going into state legislature in order to keep their economies from collapsing, I'm not surprised to see the federal government start to assert its justifications for punitive federal tax.

I can start to see tax revolts in the not-too-distant future.

One of these days, Ron Paul is going to stop pretending to be a congressman and inform the world that he is a time traveler from the planet Krypton, on a secret mission to save the individuals of Earth from tyranny, and since doing so covertly was not possible, he will soon announce the list of people that he is banishing to the Phantom Zone.

Well, other than that I can already see the massive increase in Civil unrest. At least around here... People are resorting to gangs and criminal acts to provide for themselves.

It's a sad state when violence becomes the means of provision.

I'm waiting for the riots to start.

And now (with a lighter mood in mind) we know who is behind the bailout.

Trying to work out whether this will end up as closer to the Declaratory Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaratory_Act) or the Stamp Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamp_Act_1765).

Opinions?

Well, ten years later and Pelosi is back in power and shit keeps on going as it always has...and we keep on taking it up the ass.
