I go through phases, myself. I'll get really active on here for a few weeks and then completely drop off the radar later. Kind of like the way I smoke cigarettes.

Try setting time limits for yourself. Use a timer to keep track of your usage. Perhaps schedule your time here instead of coming on willy-nilly. This can cause addiction-especially if the more interesting members (such as me) are actively posting.

Hope that helps.

I agree with the OP; it's very addicting. The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Try meditation. Seriously. It helps with the unbrainwashing process too.

Each day Buddists monks, instead of learning something, try to unlearn 10 things.

Try meditating each time you get the urge to get on the computer and just before you sleep. http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate

I too have succumbed to the addiction of this forum.
The variety of things that I may speak my mind on is too much stimuli for me, and that usually ends with me making a very fancily-worded post that means little to nothing.

But it boosts my ego on certain topics.

- If a person has 350 posts on a board they just joined last week its probably a good sign that you spend way too much time on the internet and should get out more. I'm just sayin.

The forum was growing so fast that after a while, we would crash the server?

lol...

But I'm not addicted. No. Not me. Nope.

Welcome and go see Dr. Ron Paul. He will help you. I think we all feel the same. I constantly see if people quote what I said and read their opinion. This forum is a good source for news!

It's a productivity-killer.

I have nearly ten books on my desk now that I haven't read. Books just seem so linear and boring. One person talking on and on, in far more depth than I'd ever want, for hundreds, or even thousands of pages. RPFs has hundreds of people talking, is usually incredibly pithy, and you can "finish" after reading just a few posts of a thread.

Some things may require some displeasure before recieving the full benefit.
You can have a life filled with small cheap pleasures, are try to throw in some unique ones.
I didn't enjoy learning everything I learned, but I now enjoy having the knowledge.

I don't believe in different qualities of happiness, as Huxley did ("natural" vs. synthetic). I'm downright giddy most of the time. My attention span isn't too bad... I've always done very well on tests without bothering to do the busywork-at-home. I'd kill myself before having to work at a job I dislike.

It really depends on the ultimate reward. I usually forget what's inside a book within a year, anyway. I am awfully lazy, but if I find something that really interests me, I'll be the best at what I do.

Hahaha... well that explains why you pretend to favor Nihilism. You don't need to think :D

It's that god damn new post button. :(That's my problem. And I get really irritated when I click it and it doesn't change or if the only topics being discussed are topics I'm not interested in or have nothing to add to.

From 8-6 my light is usually on and I'll go about my other internet business or play with my kids or do housework or whatever. I'll hit new posts and sometimes get sucked in. I have no desire to quit. I get my news here, listen to commentary from you folks and decided what's worth further investigation.

I love this place, you guys are like family.

here's a suggestion. since date joined and total posts only paints a partial picture, how about creating a measure of activity for usage during the last day or week, sort of an octane level, for our users to monitor themselves? Some will use it to control their usage, others will do their best to keep their octane levels as high as possible. :)

It's definitely been a paradigm shift for me to post on a regular forum, especially a political forum, especially months after a general election, especially when politics is the last thing I want to be thinking about, .... yep, addicted, proud of it, and don't see this changing for a long, long, long time. I just thought about RPF still being around 30 years from now.......... woah, dude.
