Obama is about to unleash his e-mail list to influence passage of legislation. 13 Million addresses. Representative democracy just got thrown out the window.

He wants his followers to flood congress with messages calling for the approval of his 3.5 Trillion budget (remember, he's already blown 4 Trillion), and this is "for a start"...

So, brainstorm please - how do we counter this? - any ideas?

Obama, DNC to unleash campaign pressing Congress to pass his budget

Washington Post

Last update: March 15, 2009 - 9:45 PM

WASHINGTON - President Obama will kick off an all-out grass-roots effort today urging Congress to pass his $3.55 trillion budget, activating the extensive campaign apparatus he built during his successful 2008 candidacy for the first time since taking office.

The campaign, which will be run under the aegis of the Democratic National Committee, will rely heavily on the 13 million-strong e-mail list put together during the campaign and now under the control of Organizing for America (OFA), a group overseen by the DNC. Aides familiar with the plan said it is an unprecedented attempt to transfer the grass-roots energy built during the presidential campaign into an effort to sway Congress.

David Plouffe, who was Obama's campaign manager and is now an adviser to OFA, called this effort the "first major engagement" of the group in the legislative process and said in a statement that it will call on supporters "to help the president win the debate between those who marched in lockstep with the failed Bush economic policies and now have no new ideas versus the Obama agenda which will help us manage the short-term economic crisis and puts us on the path to long-term prosperity."

Plouffe, who passed up a formal role in the White House but remains a conduit to the army of Obama volunteers, sent an e-mail to the OFA mailing list over the weekend signaling the ramping up of the campaign for the president's budget. "In the next few weeks we'll be asking you to do some of the same things we asked of you during the campaign -- talking directly to people in your communities about the president's ideas for long-term prosperity," he wrote.

That push begins today with an e-mail asking volunteers to go door to door Saturday to urge neighbors to sign a pledge in support of Obama's budget plan.

A new online tool, to be unveiled this week on the DNC/OFA website, will help constituents find their congressional representatives' contact information so they can call the offices to voice approval of the proposal. A midweek follow-up message to the mailing list will ask volunteers to call Capitol Hill -- the first time the OFA e-mail database has been used to urge direct contact with Congress in support of legislation.

"Members are going to be surrounded by this, and this is going to carry on for the next several weeks on this budget fight," said one source familiar with the strategy.

Several people closely involved in this campaign's planning made it clear that they believe this is the moment Democrats have been waiting for since Obama's election -- the deployment of the volunteer army that helped catapult a freshman senator to the presidency.

few of the comments:

Let the droids out

the Obama droids... No real, original thought, just do as the Messiah commands. No thinking allowed. Thinking makes you realize he is tripling the so called "Bush debt"... in office less than two months and he is doing more damage to our future than any other president, thanks to the brain dead voters who believe in his words, not his actions.

Obama

Is in way over his head.

The Deployment of the Obama Civilian Army Should Scare Normal People

Obama Youth Movement/ Hitler Youth Movement. ''He alone, who owns the youth, gains the Future!'' Adolf Hitler. -- O-bam-UH! O-bam-UH! O-bam-UH! O-bam-UH! If any of his Brown Shirts show up at my door step, they will get a big surprise.

Our grassroots will do the same, except we wont sound like blubbering idiots. 'Bout time to start up my fax machine;)

edit:Personally, I hope someone 13 million Obamaniacs start getting into debates. I love to school them, especially in front of others, seems to wake a few up!

I would say sit back and laugh as most of those now disillusioned people people fail to respond.

Nice thought, but at our peak we had 100,000 supporters. With that kind of a mailing list, they outnumber us 130 to 1.

We're screwed!

I think this is a ripe opportunity to start a nice website to counter this and to capitalize on the anger of the people who will read this.
Unless you want to leave it all for a neocon to capitalize on this
just my 2 political cents. ps i never made a website and i dont know how to

As if those pictures would have looked any different if Ron Paul had won the GOP nomination. That'd be you and me in those pictures, folks.

...except most of us would be able to point out an actual reason why we support Ron Paul, instead of vauge notions of "hope" and "change".

I can't think of a single occasion when people in our movement got down on their knees and worshiped Dr. Paul. I can't think of a single occasion when people swarmed him so they could touch "the messiah"(sic). I also don't recall our people coming up with some special hand signal - though I do remember a movie some years ago about a HS teacher who built up group think using various means and built a cult like community - including a single handed sign like a "C" that members would flash at each other. The students were really shocked when one day the teacher spilled the beans and told them that the movement had followed step by step how Adolf Hitler had built a popular movement - down to the "salute" and that the exercise was meant as a warning against fascism.

Like I said - CULT!

Back to the subject of the OP, how do we beat 130 to 1 odds in this situation. Our voices will get drowned out. Obama has too many "true believers" and Congress Critters are influenced on legislation by how many "ticks" (people that contacted their office) on legislation.

This is really going to hurt us. They don't have "ticks" for people that understand what they are talking about on an issue vs the mindless "I'm just following my messiah's wishes" ones that don't have a clue what the issue is.

One tactic I do use is to ask what staffer is responsible for reviewing a particular piece of legislation and advising the Congress Critter and selling THEM on my point of view. Not just leaving a "tick". You have to be very familiar with whatever you are calling about, however... They have read the legislation, so you better damn have too!

Another tactic is to ask who would care, and contacting and selling it to them. In the case of businesses or organizations, it can act as a force multiplier - tell them how it will adversly effect them, point them to resources and encourage them to look into the subject and finally suggest that they use their web site / mailing list to mobilize people against it.

This isn't enough. 130 to 1 odds against us is a HUGE handicap - so please brainstorm people!
