Whether or not you agree with the agree with the author, there's interesting info within. Here's the comment I posted:
I'm Libertarian, personally I've never had a problem with the government building roads. It says in the Constitution that Congress has the power "To establish Post Offices and post Roads". When it says "post Roads" I don't know whether or not that refers to postal roads, but the bottom line is that the interstate roads allow items to be transported and sold across the country and allow business to be conducted and expanded across the country, making for something that is immediately tangible and beneficial to the economy in the short and long run.
I've heard that the highway system helped kill the privately constructed mass transit railroad system, but I don't know the details and have to look into this more.
BTW private roads also work well - check out a recent 20/20 special (I don't recall which segment it was - there are 6 parts here):
