WTF? That douchebag sheriff 'California may have legalized medical marijuana, we didn't legalize selling it'. That asshole should be tried for teason for violating his oath of office by turning that poor bastard over to the DEA and its goon-squad.

dugg and shouted. Here is my digg comment:
Here are the issues covered:
- economic stimulus (do all economists think it's a good idea?)
- freeing up congested roads through privatization (successful examples in France and Indiana)
- medical marijuana (man sentenced to 100 year sentence even though legal in his state AND even though it has been declared that medical marijuana raids will end)
- universal pre-kindergarten plan (existing pre-k teachers oppose how government will mandate how pre-k programs should be run, Stossel investigates a steady on just how long lasting and effective pre-k programs are)
- policing the boarders (some politicians support a few isolated fences to make it seem they're "doing something", but we see how the illegals are just cutting through those fences or climbing over them. When they get caugh trying to cross illegally, they are simply bussed back to Mexico, but they try again and 9 out of 10 eventually succeed. Half don't come sneaking in by foot but actually come in openly by car or air. Most middle-easterners who come into the US illegally come via Canada)
- The American Dream and the middle class (are still alive and kicking)

Stossel disappointed me. He wasn't forthright about the middle class, or about the fence. Duncan Hunter was my rep. The fence he helped put up in San Diego cut crossings in that area by 95%. Never mentioned that. And the middle class who buy desert toys, etc. Stossel never bothered to put up the stats on their debt ratios. Anyone can go max out their cards and get loans. Really disappointing.

ps. before anyone starts ragging on me about the fence - I would rather we didn't have to have it. But, I also wish I didn't have to have a sophisticated alarm and camera system on my property either.....I also wish I didn't have to carry a stun gun, or have several weapons on hand. Get my drift?

What about the footage they showed of cut up fences that were patched up, and also the ladders left at the fences? It seems people who want to get through, get through. How did San Diego become an exception when people can get around the fence one way or another?

Sure, give me a ladder. The problem with immigration isn't immigration but our welfare state and drug war. If we did not have welfare for them to leech off of, moving here would not have the incentive it does now. They would have to take how they will fund their well being a lot more seriously, especially when it comes to medical care and what not(of course, these things would also be a lot cheaper probably). It would discourage those who do not come here to work. If we had legalized drugs (EVERYTHING) there would be no way for the drug lords to make any money here and they wouldn't traffic their drugs here. Both of these takes care of a lot of criminals and other undesirable people. Most of the people that would come here, almost all I'd venture to say, would be those who really are looking to improve their lot in life through diligent work (hell, most probably are already).

Even if there was no welfare, illegals would come here anyway for a much, much better standard of living and much higher wages.

BTW, scale might be an issue with that photo. That fence is like 30 feet high, and it's monitored 24/7.

Which is fine. So what if someone wants to move somewhere else for a better standard of living? That's like saying you can't move to a different state for a better job just because the people in that state don't like people from the state you live in.

BTW, scale might be an issue with that photo. That fence is like 30 feet high, and it's monitored 24/7.

If it's monitored 24/7, then why do we need a fence? It's the monitoring keeping people out, not the retarded waste of money. They make ladders longer than 30feet, and for going down, well, thats what rope is for.

Wtf makes you think you're entitled to live here while others aren't?

Almost everyone in the US has non-American in them.

John Stossel came out of left field for me when he did the first libertarian-type 20/20 special.

He has actually become one of the most important voices to the freedom movement at the moment. According to the most recent Nielsen ratings, this show was the 5th most watched show on Friday. He is reaching millions of Americans, the average age of which do not get any of their news from the internet. He is probably the ONLY voice in the MSM that the older population ever hears with libertarian ideas.

Uh....because we're governed by the rule of law. We have immigration laws. Every country has immigration laws. Are you implying that Americans have the right to break the immigration laws of ...let's say...Mexico???

Anyone who would want to put illegals ahead of the line(before those trying to get here legally), hiring them before hiring Americans, (or LEGAL immigrants) giving them social services before Americans - anyone who would be willing to do that, would probably take care of someone elses family before their own, since...to my way of thinking...it's the same GD'd thing!!

I really liked the story about the kid that made it on $25 in his pocket in 10 months.

People like to have this victim mentality that the government doesnt do enough for the poor but if you're looking for handout well thats a whole different story. The american dream is still alive if you buckle down and work hard, problem is that people want everything handed to them.

People want govt money so they can lounge around at home with a full fridge, cable, plasma tv and an escalade.

San Diego is just where the wall was started. No matter where you bulld a wall or how high people who really want to will find a way around. Here in SoCal they have cut holes in the fence, dug tunnels under it, used boats to sail around, hidden inside parts of cars including the engines, or just head off to a place where there is no fence like Arizona. The 9/11 terrorists came into the US legally- it would not have stopped them. Many illegals came here legally as well on either vacation visits or temporary permits and stayed after their time period.

So what if we have immigration laws. That makes no more sense than a town having immigration laws, or your neighborhood. Why should government get to decide who can go where? Just because everyone does soemthing doesn't mean its correct.

Anyone who would want to put illegals ahead of the line(before those trying to get here legally),

There shouldn't even be a line. Those who want to come here should just be able to come here. If there is a line to get houses, so be it. They will go to the highest bidder. If there is a line to get work, it will go to the lowest bidder.

hiring them before hiring Americans, (or LEGAL immigrants)

So what if they hire people who aren't originally from here. A job should go to whoever the employer feels is best for it. It's their business.

giving them social services before Americans

This is the real issue. There shouldn't even be social services for anyone. If you don't work for what you get, then you don't deserve it. You made no contribution to society so you don't deserve anything from society.

Did you miss the first part of my response to this? The rule of law. That is what gives the gov't the authority to decide who can live here and who can't. If you don't like it, work toward changing the immigration laws.

There shouldn't even be a line. Those who want to come here should just be able to come here. If there is a line to get houses, so be it. They will go to the highest bidder. If there is a line to get work, it will go to the lowest bidder.

This is so unrealistic, it's almost not worth responding to. If we decided, as a country, to open our borders and let just anyone in, do you not realize that the criminal element from almost every other country would be the first to get here?

So what if they hire people who aren't originally from here. A job should go to whoever the employer feels is best for it. It's their business.

No matter how poor the quality is, right? As long as the price is right? Because often, greedy business owners will go the cheap route, and compromise quality, if they can. I don't see how that helps any of us.

This is the real issue. There shouldn't even be social services for anyone. If you don't work for what you get, then you don't deserve it. You made no contribution to society so you don't deserve anything from society.

The trouble is, the very people who pay into this f'd up system all their lives, more often than not, can't qualify to pull their own money out of it when they hit tough times. Instead, it goes to the illegals.

Yay for fallicious attacks here- ad hominism and appeal to emotion and making wild assumptions

Yes, because we all know how well political change works. There is no such thing as the rule of law, it is an illusion created to pacify people. The Constitution is no more a protection from government than any other piece of paper with fancy writing on it. If anything, it protects the government from the people by creating an illusion of restraint. We can look at the last 200 years and see how well the piece of paper has restrained the government.

This is so unrealistic, it's almost not worth responding to. If we decided, as a country, to open our borders and let just anyone in, do you not realize that the criminal element from almost every other country would be the first to get here?

Only because of more of that rule of law stuff. The only reason there is a criminal element is because of black markets, and black markets are the result of making certain types of property illegal to own. If drugs were not illegal, there would be no drug lords. If guns were not illegal there would be no gun smugglers. If gambling weren't illegal, there would be no loan sharks (the shady type with the mob, hell there wouldn't even be a mob). The only reason these criminal elements exist is because they can make shit tons of money, and the only reason they can make shit tons of money is because of the black market, and the only reason that exists is because of government and 'the rule of law'.

No matter how poor the quality is, right? As long as the price is right? Because often, greedy business owners will go the cheap route, and compromise quality, if they can. I don't see how that helps any of us.

How does a business benefit by putting out poor quality work? They don't. Often, those greedy business owners go out of business because no one buys their goods/services and buy competitor's stuff instead. You show a poor understanding of economics.

The trouble is, the very people who pay into this f'd up system all their lives, more often than not, can't qualify to pull their own money out of it when they hit tough times. Instead, it goes to the illegals.

They aren't paying into a system, money is being forcible stolen from them and put into this system. If the system didn't exist, the money would still be theirs to utilize because it would have never been stolen from them. More of that rule of law stuff.

You are NOT that naive! You can't be. You think the only criminals that would come across are dope dealers? News Flash! Murderers, rapists, terrorists, and every type of psychotic you can think of would be here in a moment's notice if we opened our borders to everyone. Not to mention every poor and down trodden from all corners of the earth! Try thinking your points all the way through to their logical conclusion.

I used to know a young woman who was killed by an illegal alien. He was driving drunk and had 4 priors! FOUR PRIORS! He kept getting thrown back over the border! Illegal aliens kill an average of 25 Americans a day. Add that up since 911!

How does a business benefit by putting out poor quality work? They don't. Often, those greedy business owners go out of business because no one buys their goods/services and buy competitor's stuff instead. You show a poor understanding of economics.

You have a total lack of understanding of the impact that illegal immigration has on this country. You obviously live no where near the southern border.

I used to know a young woman who was killed by an illegal alien. He was driving drunk and had 4 priors! FOUR PRIORS! He kept getting thrown back over the border! Illegal aliens kill an average of 25 Americans a day. Add that up since 911!

The fact that he was an illegal has nothing to do with it. The fact that he is a drunk driver and the government is retarded has everything to do with it. Hey, guess what, there are tons of Americans and legal immigrants who are also drunk drivers and also kill people. And guess what, Americans and legal immigrants kill WAY more than 25 people a day. And 9/11 has nothing to do with illegal immigration and everything to do with our foreign policy.

You have a total lack of understanding of the impact that illegal immigration has on this country. You obviously live no where near the southern border.

No I understand it. It is a terrible burden now, because we are forced to support some/most of them through the social system that shouldn't exist anyways and parts are made worse because of it. It is the welfare system that attracts the leeches and dead beats. If the government redistribution didn't exist, these types of people wouldn't bother coming because in order to get anything they would have to work for it.

And this response has nothing to do with my point. Social Services, etc. were sold to the American people as a safety net. But we all know that isn't what it is today. All the more reason to get rid of it. This is the real issue with the immigration problem, along with a lot of other things.
