View Full Version : Why Keep Watching Stewart and Colbert?

They're both hardcore leftists. Their shows both push leftist views. And yet many conservative and libertarian young people watch their leftist propaganda shows disguised as humor?

I stopped watching in October 2008 as I got sick of them. Currently haven't been even tempted to turn either of them back on.

If you want to keep watching them, that's absolutely fine. Just don't be surprised that they're not attacking Obama like they did Bush or are mocking libertarians and Atlas Shrugged or anything like that.

One thing to note though, remember Ron Paul was able to leave Jon Stewart speechless on his appearance there... Stewart is very adept at highlighting BS: he very recently called Obama's non pull out of Iraq when no one else in the media would. BS is BS... Bush, his administration, and big government GOP legislature was easy pickens for BS.

So what does it mean if Stewart is genuinely speechless to a guest? It means the guest made sense.

Dr. Paul 1, Jon Stewart 0.

If you honestly can't take humor without being judgmental yourself at times, you're just weak. Besides, it's not like the two bend over for the left. They ram it up bullshit's ass whenever they can, right or left.

And meanwhile Colbert has IMFer on right now talking about wise planners and oligarchs, albeit claiming these oligarchs were acting in a 'free market'

yep, OP is right...HUGE STATISTS.

I don't really watch either anymore, but I have to say Colbert definitely isn't a leftist. It's not clear what his real politcal beliefs are, and the character just spoofs everything. His audience is usually made up of lefties though.

because they make more sense then msm. they are all a joke but at least you can laugh at colbert and stewart because it is a comedy show. You can only watch cnn/fox/msnbc msm etc and THINK these comedy shows(cnn/fox/msnbc/msm) SUCK!!!

Wednesday night Colbert asked his guest about his 13 arguments book...said one of them ought to be if Obama is eligible to be president. Might have been mocking...but a lot of people heard it...planted a seed

Where else would we get our news? :D

Other television shows? The internet? Radio? Newspapers?

There are quite a few other places.

Watching the show doesn't require you to agree with everything they say. Sometimes, they're dead-on.

No, it doesn't. But it feeds them, makes them richer and more likely to get even more replays of their shows and stick around longer.

Does anyone here watch Hannity everyday? And why not? Probably the same reason.

They do way more good than harm, imho.

Small difference......Jon Stewart=comedian. Entertainment is his job.

Stewart does a good job in my opinion. I also appreciate Colbert bringing Ron Paul on his show and being courteous. I can't say the same to hannity, malkin, cameron and those other idiots on the fox debate.

Yeah but obama is much smarter than Bush, and has not made the stupid comments or mistakes like bush has. And i don't mean mistakes by legislation. I mean stupid remarks and slip ups. Bush got what he deserved because he was an idiot. He has been critical of Obama as well, but lets not forget it has only been a couple months. he has a long time ahead of him to make mistakes and be made fun of. I agree though, stewart is def. left of center, but not a raging liberal.

I agree that he is left, possibly a Marxist sympathizer, but I just can't get him sometime. I know he doesn't like what American capitalism has done to "the little guy" and I see him defend that mentality a lot. The last time I watched Stewart he had Bolivian president and socialist Evo Morales on and he basically treated him like a hero. After that I stopped watching.

stewart doesn't like seeing the government or the financial sector take advantage of everyday citizens. And being a partial news show he kind of has to take the view point since he is watched by most college students, highschool, etc. I have watched just about every show of his for the past 5 years, and he is just left of center but def. has some libertarian ideas. I like him because he thinks freely and does not select a party. Just like me, i mean i love everything ron paul has to say about economics, and foreign policy but i have to disagree with him on education, and abortion(although i do sympathize with his life experience he expresses in his book).

I do notice something odd about Colbert. He is supposed to be a liberal that plays a conservative, but i don't really think he is either. Obviously 95% of what he says is tongue in cheek, but every once in awhile he makes a serious comment that actually makes sense from our perspective.

Im not going to call him a conservative, but I dont think that he is the total opposite of what he plays on TV. Sometimes he'll have total loons on, and you'd think IRL he would agree with them, but he will actually pursue an intelligent conversation and debate these people.

But in the end its all just entertainment.

I dont really like John Stewart these days, he says a lot of things that make sense, but he is just a jerk about everything.

Thats the point. Its rude comedy. It gives the big whigs their fair dose of humility. I think it helps to bring celebrities and politicians down to be viewed as everday citizens. I think its well done, and smart humor, although sometimes over the top and dry.

Yes, over the top and dry, many times the jokes he makes arent really funny and they fall flat. It ends up making him look like an ass because many of the things are not funny at all when he makes a cheap shot at someone.

I still watch it sometimes, but he has changed a bit over the years.

I will most certainly agree with you on this point. But being it the only half real/funny news show there is, i put up with the jokes that die off. Most shows do have a few good high points though, and being a political science major and a news junkie, i enjoy it. He needs to get some of the better anchors back, colbert was classic, but i miss rob wriggle lol.
