OK, I'm asking for help because I can't figure this out. I want to get Dr. Paul's testimony from this hearing: http://foreignaffairs.house.gov/schedule.asp?showdate=3/5/2009 into a usable format so I can upload to Youtube.

There are two segments with Dr. Paul - a beginning statement and questioning (really good!) in the last 20 minutes or so. If anyone knows how to get this into a .wmv please let me know. I'm stumped.

i presume you're able to watch it in realplayer, right?

i've never solved this exact problem before, but did some searching for you.

Could this program perhaps do what you need? http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Real7ime_Converter

Google says: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showpost.php?p=20474&postcount=5

I don't know how accurate that is though.

Maybe one of the videophiles knows better...

Mediacoder is a fail, I think. Downloaded it, tried it, gave me a big fat error message. ptooey.

OK, if people don't at least TRY to help me, they aren't allowed to talk trash about my videos. New rule.

It's converting right now, but since the original hearing is an hour and a half, conversion will take an hour and a half. Before I know if it works, and with my luck, I'll sit here waiting for an hour and a half only to get an error message. I'm giving it a try but also entertaining other more time efficient solutions.

This was also a fail. :( It spat out a .avi that when I put in Sony Vegas had only sound, no video.

Try and edit the avi with windows movie maker?

It's good enough for a youtube video.

Worse case you can use your video camera and record right off the computer screen. It sounds bad but some have had good results with this, if done right. Record in HD.

The following works, but the software costs money...

Download WMCapture here:

http://www.wmrecorder.com/wm_capture.php

Buy it for $39.95, put in the license key so you can capture more than 2
minutes of video.

If you are using Windows (XP) be sure to disable hardware acceleration if it isn't already disable. This is the difference maker if you want video AND audio, not just audio. This is done by right clicking on the desktop, selecting properties, clicking on the settings tab, then clicking on Advanced, then on the Troubleshoot tab at the top of the window. Then slide the slider next to Hardware acceleration from FULL all the way to None.

Next bring up the stream in RealPlayer, bring up WMCapture. Click on Get Window in WMCapture and highlight the realplayer video window. Click on Settings in WMCapture to set appropriate settings for the resultant file (WMV), etc.. Seek to the portions of video you want to record. When the clip gets to the part you wish to record, click on Record in the WMCapture window. When the part is over, click on stop. Then you have yourself a WMV file with the video you just captured.

I've so far captured the opening statement from Paul successfully using this method. I'm now trying to locate the question portion.

So if you want me to do it and upload it to YouTube I'd be happy to do it and post the link here.

If you'd rather spend the 40 bucks and do it then I'll stop and let you have at it.

Enjoy!

Thank you sooo much. At this point, I have a bunch of other stuff to catch up on after wasting so much time with this. I'll be happy to post your video when you're done! :)

ok... it's uploading now.

I'll update this thread when complete.

and BTW, it was very very good! (naturally for Dr. Paul)

He seems to have struck a nerve in Jim Baker in the clip.
:D

Enjoy.

I;ve got the whole .rm file, but the volume is really low.

I'm now watching to get the times I need for editing, to try my hand at it.

I downloaded a free audio book that's in a .m4b format, and it's broken down into 3 parts....what the heck do I do with it? I don't have an Ipod..mPC will play it but I'd rather burn it on a disc or doscs so I can listen to it downwstairs.....

Is does "Part 1" really mean disc 1?

Is a blank DVD-R the same as a big CD-R?

Not on this website!! :o :) Seriously however, I got this tip from a video pro-- I'm sure you need a decent setup to make it work OK however.

I didn't know this was a "real" stream - I know there is some freeware that can do it- I use to use some for this. This list shows some options:

That is why I frequent this fine establishment. In the end, the important thing is Dr. Paul wanted the clip uploaded so you all could see it. Doesn't matter if I get credit for it or not. I just wish I could do everything instantly. argh.

Cool... I'm not sure why it's taking Youtube so long to process the video (again), but it is uploaded and I am again at the whim of the youtube processing.

Enjoy
