...is when the oil companies announce 1Q profits...

The price of oil has fallen but demand has plummetted.

I think it will be a huge shock to a lot of investors...

/disagree

I think when they announce Q1 profits there will be some pissed off consumers.

Profit PER GALLON was at record highs due to crude prices being low and maintaining high (not compared to $4.50 a gallon) prices at the pump. I heard on some TV program recently that oil company profit per gallon was recently between 2 and 3 times normal.

People needing their money for shelter, food, and fuel.

The criminal activity in regards to illegal labor and the illegally bringing in of H-visa workers has helped to drive down our wages and tap us dry.

I've also been thinking along other lines regarding the stock market.

Imagine if you will that there is only me and you and another guy in the whole world for a moment. Say we wanted to create a company. The three of us pool our money together and get equal shares. Each one of us share in the profits equally.

That is pretty much the basics of creating a company using stock.

Now say we decide to invest some money to retire with. We create a 201K plan and each week out of our profits we set it up to automatically buy shares.

The price of the stock rises!!!

The stock market closes with the ringing of a bell and people clapping wildly!!!!!

The management of the company gives each other BIG bonuses because they are so brilliant!!!!!!!

But... now back to the three of us.

Haven't we just been buying our own stock from ourselves?

Over and over automatically.

Isn't that what we all have been doing as a nation???

Buying the stock we own over and over and over...

from ourselves?????

P.S. I suppose some of the money we have been investing every week could have accidentally made it to some sort of good use.
