I just heard the guy on Fox Business interview an IRS guy. Obama is giving IRS $300 million to hire more agents and go after back taxes. Especially targeting the offshore accounts, but also internally.

I couldn't find any printed statement on this, but like I said Fox B had a whole segment on it.

They said on the program they can recover $150 billion.

$300M for what? To bribe bankers into giving up their clients? To bribe foreign officials? What exactly is it that they are going to buy with $300M?

They said on the program they can recover $150 billion.

That is a foolish statement.

They may be able to find $150 billion owed and chase after it, but good luck "recovering" it all.

I think this may be there plan to lower unemployment. Bare with me. [Keynesianomics/Obamanomics on] 85% of people pay their taxes. So out of the 15% that they are going to go after, if they put at least 8% behind jail that could wipe out unemployment.[/Obamanomics off]

Subject: Taxes - sorry if you've already seen this. I just got it in email.

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
0 Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me to my doom....'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It's time to apply
The inheritance tax.

What in the hell happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'
And I still have to 'press 1' for English!?!?!?!?

It might work if done correctly. A similar example of this is a program many states offer to the disabled to rehabilitate them into the work force. Without it, these people would most likely remain unemployed and supported by welfare. But by paying to help educate them and transition them into the work force, the state not only eliminates a lifetime of welfare payments to these people but also earns tax revenues from them in the long run. In other words, by spending additional money in the short term to reduce the welfare state, the state is able to save money over the long term. Of course, one could argue that they would save even more money by abolishing the welfare system, but that is simply not going to happen.

Shouldn't the wasted money go to the U.S. Treasury, instead of a branch of it?

Where's the missing TAX:

Alternative Minimum Tax
Federal Excise Tax
General Service Tax
Value Added Tax
Inventory Tax
and
U.S. Tax Court
