Just thought I would share this, not just the video and stats, but look at the responses. I thought bold socialism was a fringe movement but I clearly underestimated that.

So many people identify with the concepts of Socialism, but don't realize the concepts they support are Socialist. Someone might say they agree with redistribution of wealth, but I'm not a Socialist. Yeah, okay. I rob houses, but I'm not a thief.

The Latin American rebellion against capitalism is actually not unlike what we're experiencing in the US or anywhere else that's imposed a less-than-free-market version of capitalism. Latin Americans were told that what they were getting was capitalism, it wasn't, they tried it thinking it was, and when corruption hit, they blamed capitalism. It's just like the people in this country who thought that having a federal income tax north of 30%, tons of corporate welfare, and tons of spending meant that we were doing capitalism (when of course it was not).

The same was the case in Latin America. Nobody ever calls these hair-brained schemes "Keynesianism" or "mixed-socialism" or "corporatism." Those names don't resonate well with people. Moreover, I'm sure the leaders of these Latin American countries probably had no idea about the difference between free-market capitalism and corporatism themselves.

Ask those same folks what they think about the Austrian School of economics. They'll look at you like you just made up something just like everyone here does. They won't have a negative opinion of it though (if that's all you're worried about).

Its pretty discouraging seeing people still adopt these utopian societies where the state is going to take care of the people, I thought people have figured it out but apparently they haven't.

I have noticed more and more people openly proclaiming themselves socialists. The stigma associated with the term is eroding, and fast.

People are getting the smiling faces, the Michael Moore's, free medicine, free everything, but it takes a suspension of disbelief for me to believe that there is such a thing as a free lunch, or a government sponsored ration that is edible. They see socialism as a humanitarian act, and they don't seem to care about dependency on the state. If this country becomes full blown socialist because of these utopians, I'll be looking for the first safe haven. You people can have your "free medicine" and false promises, you jackasses!

Well, what this topic seems to show us is that there may not be a safe haven anywhere else in the world soon. The Asian countries might pick up the capitalist mantle (since they're the only ones doing any production), but moving to Asia is only an option if you speak the languages. Some of us are going to be trapped almost by default.

I just have one thing to say about socialism, "Look at California"

If that is the case, we will just have to carve out our last piece of America. Secession it is. !%#$ the socialist republik.

The majority of populations want free handouts. That is what scoialism is (or promises). Theres no reason why an uninformed/uneducated mass would not be for it.

Sometimes I feel like a McCarthy era Communist when I use the word "libertarian" to describe my beliefs. Everyone looks at me like I'm some kind of radical nutcase.

Its not alredy there? I mean, in the USA you dont get some of the little benefits of socialism, but for sure you get a lot of the downturns. Thats the impresion I have.

This is really simple. A or B

A. The people generally think they are kind people and the best way to help the poorer classes is through government. They don't understand how truly free market health care could work.

B. The poor generally think they can't make it due to cultural prejudices or have been programmed not to try and are lazy. Therefore the government is a source for aid in their time of irresponsibility.
