You should just do like Tony Soprano and ask the wise, Soprano family consigliere, Silvio Dante.

Which two areas of the economy have been recession proof since time immemorial?

"Certain aspects of the entertainment industry . . . and our thing." -Silvio

So there you have it. There's the one thing that people cannot live without: entertainment. Then you have another thing that the government helps create with its ridiculous policies: the mafia. You should either train yourself to become an actor or get good with a garrote.

We have rabbits, chickens, cattle, horses, catfish, wild game, 1000 acres of farmland and 200 acres of woodlands. 4 water wells.

I'm technically inclined, while others in my family are mechanically inclined.

A country boy will survive.

The CIA because FDR needed people to keep his enemies silent.

Waste Disposal.

I was thinking the same thing.
Imagine if dirt piled up with no janitors to clean it.
Some people would help but it still wouldn't look normal.

And this.

Have a skill set going into this. If you don't have one, get one, quick.

Pencil pushing "do nothing" jobs are going to get scarce.

Picking garbage, recycling, cleaning, and being an illegal alien are generally jobs that are stable regardless of economic climate.

I believe jobs and business in sharing, driving, delivery, computer support, liquidating, marketing will be on the rise. So will scams, prostitution, legal services.

There's going to be a black market for tobacco products with the way they are taxing them. At least it's still legal to grow it.

Got my seeds last fall.

Really curious how well they will do.

Building war machinery (http://www.smartmoney.com/Investing/Stocks/15-Great-Investments-From-the-Great-Depression/?page=16).

The jobs and profit will be in the industry that will be used for the next bubble. If history is any indication then TPTB will create a war. WWII started before the US entered it, and many of the companies listed in that article started selling arms to the allies at a nice profit (when labor was cheap in the US). If there's a major war in the world - and the US can stay out of it for some time - then the US MIC will crank into high gear.

+1 That's what my Paw-Paw did. Didn't make him rich, but it put food on the table, a roof over the families head and a cash start on a "honest" living. After he served his time. LOL;):D

Jobs that people can't do without. Then just hope that you don't have a ton of people who can do the same thing.

Running 'baccy (after total tobacco prohibition, which is coming soon) might turn out to be more profitable than running dope.

:D

Did you get my PM?;)

My husband supervises heavy machinery for 4 landfills. I can tell you what he says: "When people don't buy, there is less trash."

Jobs that provide necessities like health care providers for example are always going to be around...

Basically the job market is evolving with newer technology and all the jobs built on phony prosperity are being seeded out.
