Crystal iodine is useful for water purification, among other things. You used to be able to buy it over the counter no questions asked.

I didn't even know it was restricted. I know I've seen this at REI:

It's just crystallized iodine in a unique bottle for purifying water. I wonder why that doesn't follow under the restriction?

BTW, it's a good product. One little bottle purifies 2000 quarts of water, and the unique bottle design keeps the iodine crystals from pouring out. It kicks ass over most portable water filters as long as you don't mind a very slight iodine taste.

You can still buy it - you just have to fill out a lot of paperwork and you name ends up on a DEA list for life...
