Ray McBerry is a strong advocate of state's rights, sound money and abolishing the state income tax and property tax.

Ray McBerry. I remember him challenging Sonny Perdue in 2006 in the republican primary and going absolutely nowhere. Hope he does well but my money is on Casey Cagle winning.

Nice to see someone running for state office who puts real Georgia, meaning not Atlanta, first.

Nice sentiment, but this guy has zero experience as an officeholder or in any major executive position. He should run for the state house or something like that. Perhaps US Congress.

I'd probably vote for him precisely for that reason.

I'm thinking that whoever turns out to be the frontrunner for the GOP in GA's governor election, I'm gonna need a cold beer and a protest vote on election day.

While YOU might vote for him, please acknowledge that this is a turn-of for most voters, especially mainstream, uneducated voters, and it is those votes we need to win over in order to win big races.

That's the good thing about a protest vote; it doesn't require help from mainstream voters. ;)

The bad thing about a protest vote is that its a last resort and a losing strategy. The best thing to do is to get a viable guy you like out there.

That's the only good thing about a protest vote. Protest voting is a waste of time, and no good for this movement. Let's run viable candidates for office. If the goal isn't to win the office, running for office isn't an effective use of resources. If the goal is to protest and "get out the message", then there are better, cheaper, more effective ways to use our valuable time and resources.

I'm very impressed by this man. According to http://georgiafirst.org/SecondVersion/20090420.shtml he seems to be polling well. I think this is a race that we can win for liberty if enough people get behind him; the same with Sen. Brogdon running for governor of Oklahoma.

Just FYI Georgiafirst is his own web site.

I know; it's normal for candidates to post updates like that. It was a press release according to the link itself.

Cagle said he won't run, by the way...

Casey Cagle dropped out of the Governors run but this has caused Eric Johnson to run for Governor instead of Lt. Governor. Also, Jack Kingston (R-GA-01) is backing Johnson.

Agreed, but the link was posted to this thread as if it led to an outside source. hence my clarification.

Recent polls by Strategic Visions shows McBerry on 4/19 was at about 2%, and now June 12-14 he is at 2%.

I would guess he would get higher from this by turnout and low support, but it won't be winning. More like 10%ish I'd bet in the end, 20 max.

Which means: FAIL. Call it a day, stop soaking up pro-liberty resources, and endorse from among the remaining candidates.

UPDATE (09/20/09): I now think that we can't afford to not support McBerry; see http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=205155

I think you may be right. McBerry's new poll numbers are very bad: http://bit.ly/2fMWfF

It's sad, because McBerry is a genuine state sovereignty advocate who would stand up to the feds.

Well, at least we have a reasonable chance to win with Randy Brogdon in Oklahoma: http://www.randybrogdon.com/

Yes, and it's unfortunate that he's not viable - so now is the time to cut him out of the loop as far as funding goes. Let's donate our money to somebody with a little more viability.

I'm not following that race, but his web site is pretty professional.

In the Oklahoma Republican gubernatorial primary there are only two candidates: Congresswoman Mary Fallin and state Senator Randy Brogdon. Fallin is a bailout voter. Brogdon helped block REAL ID and lead the recent state sovereignty resolution to passage. This is a worthwhile race and it is winnable.
