It's true. Percentage of Americans who believe marijuana ought to be legalized: 41 percent. Percentage of Americans who approve of the Republican Party: 31 percent.

Other things that are less popular than legalizing weed, according to Open Left: Congress, the war in Iraq, privatizing Social Security, and John Boehner.

See? We don't live in a democracy.

Doesn't that make some of you happy?

The majority doesn't always make something right. However, in light of this, I would say I'm happy that weed is more popular than elephant dung.

Errr...? How does that prove we don't live in under a democracy? Even if we lived in a pure "two wolves and a sheep discussing what's for dinner" direct democracy, 41% of people still[/B wouldn't be enough to repeal marijuana prohibition, unless they voted disproportionately compared to the authoritarian "moral guardians." In any case, the US is [B]supposed to be a constitutionally limited democratic republic, but it's closer to an ugly mix between pure democracy and oligarchy. We're certainly "democratic" enough that people can now vote for plunder via the state, with complete disregard for any notion of unalienable rights...

Hell by now I'd hope getting kicked in the balls would be more popular than elephant dung or jackass crap.
