That's right. The Political Exploration and Awareness Committee (PEAC) has successfully raised 20,200 dollars to beat their goal of $20,000. All this for a person who has not officially announced a campaign, or even said that he planned on it.

I sincerely hope that this convinces Peter Schiff to run for Senate.. This isn't exactly a small amount of change, considering the circumstances.

Huzzah for Schiff!

20k is far more likely to make him think he does not have the support than that he does. He has money, and he knows 20k may print a few signs, but it's not even scratching the surface of a Senate campaign.

If he runs, he would get 50 times that amount.

I am quite skeptical. Even if he runs, and Dodd is still being Dodd....I mean....It's Connecticut. No offense to anyone from there but....Come on...Dodd....Leibermann? How else do you advocate that you're crazy liberals than by electing crazy liberals?

If he will run I will donate. But he has to say he will do it.

Considering the circumstances, I would suggest otherwise.

This is a huge success, considering that the guy is not even running!

Schiff could raise tens of millions once the campaign really begins, not to mention that he himself could throw millions into the race from his own personal fortune.

We should all take the time to send Schiff a thoughtful email at europac asking him to run.

All I hope, is that the gents who set up this fundraising drive, make sure they can account for every penny that was raised. I am sure they're well intentioned, and I am keeping my fingers crossed they can preserve these funds until it is time to take action.

We know all too well how it's easy for people who raise funds to chip away at them until suddenly "geeze we spent it on well...this and that" and then it is gone.

Congrats on the raise. Now be smart about it.

what are they going to spend it on?

-Polling - costs a few k doesnt it to do a poll?

-advertising in CT newspapers - that would also cost several k

- local radio? can also be pricey but could be within budget.

-mailers/leaflets?

-website/hosting needs to be paid for

so i'd say their activities and stated goals of trying to convince Peter to run will likely consume the budget very easily

I know it's CT but...can you imagine a debate between Dodd and Schiff? I mean, really...this wouldn't be him making some talking head economist on CNBC look like a fool. This would be the political murder of a politician who should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Oh man, you just got me all hot and bothered at the prospect of Schiff calling out Dodd.. :D

It's worth the money to merely put pressure on Dodd. It will have influence outside Connecticut even if he doesn't win.

Just getting the Republican nomination would give him alot of face time having a go at Dodd.

Schiff is obviously a master of one-liners and metaphors. He would literally SLAUGHTER Dodd in the debates, especially if they dwell on economics. :D

Which, unless by some miracle, will be the focal point of the 2010 election.

Does anyone think his dad will be used as a political weapon?

Does anyone think his dad will be used as a political weapon?

I'd almost hope so. If we're going to start talking about arresting people for doing illegal things with their money*, like not paying taxes or, oh, let's say, getting sweetheart deals from Fannie and Freddie, I'd say that Schiff's father's transgressions are far less concerning than Dodd's own transgressions.

Dodd would frankly be really stupid to try and pin Irwin Schiff's tax evasion against Peter Schiff when Dodd himself has done way worse.

EDIT: I guess I use the phrase "their money" pretty lightly, since Dodd was actually doing illegal things WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S money, hehehe.

I thought we did great.. considering this is a shot in the dark I am willing to bet like myself, most people only gave 5 or 10 dollars.. so thats alot of people if we got 20,000 in small donations..

this was us saying if he does run, we will donate.. but a ton more.

Perhaps they will release statistics on just how many people donated.. that would be an interested number. Also, the location of the people that donated. I guarantee Schiff will have the most diverse donor group of all Senatorial candidates...

They would use Schiff's dad against him, and also some of his seemingly "anti-American" statements about dumping the dollar, etc. But those are easy to explain, because Schiff always says that if politicians would change their ways, the dollar could be made sound again.

In terms of his supporters and donor base, his backing would come from across the country. Even the national GOP would dump huge amounts into the race, because Dodd is #1 on their hit list in 2010. All Schiff needs to do is secure the nomination in the primary.

The more this is discussed, the more excited I get about the potential run. I really hope he gets on board...

Well honestly, after seeing just how many stupid Americans there are that put a socialist in as POTUS, it doesnt surprise me to see how many people will just piss their money away on a scam. Until Schiff agrees to throw his hat in, youre just giving your money away to a complete hoax of a campaign.

Since RP used to get more then that every 5 minutes in his moneybombs, and Schiff only got that in a 24 hour period, I dont really see it as that great a success. Unless you just want to point out how stupid people are, to donate to someone that isnt running? Was that the point of this whole thing????

If so, then congrats on a great success!!

I haven't donated to the Schiff fund. If Schiff was running, I'd get a 2nd job to donate to him.
