has been doing group buys for bulk / storage food for a long time. There are a couple of catches...

1) to even read, you have to register. just username, password and a valid e-mail address.

2) to participate, you have to donate to the running of the forum - $30 a year. You should save more than that on your first order.

3) you have to post what you are interested in ordering in the appropriate thread then contact the admin about payment.

The sub-forum is "Survival Food- Marketplace" and the one they are working on is:

"NEW - Gather Round - Mini - GB # 2"

* Case of Yoder’s Bacon
* Case of Yoder’s Beef
* Case of Yoder’s Chicken
* Case of Future Essentials Green Coffee Beans
* Case of Future Essentials Breakfast/Cereal Variety

the meats are canned. Yes, you can buy bacon in a can as well as cheese, butter, etc. and it doesn't need to be refrigerated.

so register, donate, post, contact admin. - however many cases you want of what and your good. These are case lots ONLY!

Actually, payment is done via the secure server at mredepot.com

It's worth mentioning that supporting that forum (donating) also entitles you to a 21% discount on anything (except one kind of MRE) from MREDepot.

For comparison, their December group buy had cases of bacon and butter.

Bacon (12 cans): retail: $137.12, on sale at Internet Grocer: 112.90 PLUS SHIPPING (about 32 pounds) War Rifles: 105.00 DELIVERED.

Butter (24 cans): retail: 124.80, on sale at Internet Grocer: 112.90 PLUS SHIPPING (about 32 pounds), War Rifles: $100 a case DELIVERED if less than 4 cases and $95 a case DELIVERED for 4+ cases.

EDIT: correction - each case should be about 16 pounds. When you pay for shipping, you want to order at least 200 pounds of whatever to get into lower shipping rates - otherwise that adds a lot to the cost.

In addition, if they get $50,000 worth in orders they offered to knock an additional $5 off the cost of each case.

The more people that participate, the less it costs.

anyway, it's a different way to get food.

I should probably mention that I have no association with that forum other than being a member.

Have you tried any of it?

Have you tried any of it?

The bacon is delicious! - I'd guess each can = 2 grocery store packs (it's cooked). We have some butter, beef and pork that we haven't tried yet - but we're planning on doing a stew with the beef or pork this week.

If you want to try them, Internet grocer has trial packs where you get one can of each.
