I want to get ready for the oncoming Broccoli Obama martial law onslaught.
1) Where do I obtain a water filter? (I don't buy things via credit card anymore because I'm sick of being tracked down)
2) What kind of water filter filters the most toxins?

This one will last you upwards of 20+ years depending on how dirty the water you filter is:

18 year warranty, 13,000 gallons, assuming pretty clean water, its almost 3 people for 18 years.
If you pumped out of black bog you might only get a few years or something.

If you can, buy multiple. They will be invaluable.

Buy a Berkey filter. They are well built, easy to use, and have optional filters that allow you to remove fluoride and arsenic from your water. You can pretty much pee in it and get clean water out. I haven't tried it, but it reportedly gets the color and taste out of kool-aid, leaving you with clean water on the other end.

Just go to your local REI or Camping goods store and buy with cash. There are plenty of types there. I'd recommend either the straw type filters or buying just the filter to create a drip system you can use without having to pump something manually. Don't go with power operated ones unless you are just using them for camping trips. For survival...cheap, durable, and manual.

I got my Berkey on eBay. Otherwise you can get it at Frugal Squirrels (http://www.frugalsquirrels.com/store/water_pur/big_berkey.html) or many of the survival/frugal living sites.

The Katadyn Pocket Filter seems to be the best mobile product out there in my opinion. Very good recommendation.

Reverse osmosis system is worth looking at. You can get a good one for just a few hundred bucks. Make sure you get a stash of replacement filters few years worth, they are ptretty cheap and membrane is pretty cheap and can last upto 5 years. Stay away from Crystal Quest located in Georgia. They are garbage and their systems are garbage and overpriced. Their filters are garbage and get clogged only after 2 weeks of use while my tap water is clean, below 50 ppm and while they are advertized at 10,000gallon rating. You can search around for a nice system. I spend my money now with this guy http://www.airwaterice.com/, he was well spoken of on the plumbing forums. His filters have been good so far and his prices are great so I defenitely recomend him. Im sure there are others that are good so you may want to do a search.

I don't know where you can buy one of these but I always wanted one: http://www.watercone.com/product.html

It's not as good as a water filter though. Some toxins stay with the water even when it's evaporated.
