Just wondering if anyone here is in the field. I'm in my first year of it so it would be nice to discuss it with someone in the job field. I really hope it'll be useful when I'm out.

Not me. I would love to get some formal training though.
There are a few geeks around here though.
I'm just a self taught Old Phart Caveman running Linux. ;)

I was a Computer Science Major until I couldn't pass Calculus 4, which was a requirement to graduate. So I switched to my minor of IT to get the degree.

Definitely a great field to get into. In '97 I graduated starting out at $45k/year which was good for the time.

I've worked for Defense contractor companies for my whole career. I wasn't getting paid as much as the dot com folks during that boom but I also didn't get hit by the bust.

I'm now working for a company that does flight simulators.
