Voters Want Action On Immigration

Rep. Ron Paul wants his colleagues to think about America—not reelection on issue of illegal immigration

With the November elections looming, politics is taking priority over sensible policy. It appears congressional leaders have no intention of addressing the issue of illegal immigration this year, preferring not to tackle such a thorny problem for fear of angering voters one way or another.

But this is a mistake. The American people want something done about illegal immigration now—not next year. All sides in the immigration debate agree that the current, “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” policy cannot continue.

That’s why I am joining several of my colleagues in demanding that the Senate vote this month on a border security bill already passed by the House earlier this year. I truly believe border security is the most important issue for millions of Americans.

Both the Bush administration and congressional leadership have promised to spend the next two months addressing national security issues. But real national security cannot be achieved unless and until our borders are physically secured. It’s as simple as that. All the talk about fighting terror and making America safer is meaningless without border security. It makes no sense to seek terrorists abroad if our own front door is left unlocked.

Although the border security bill already passed by the House is a good start, Congress needs to pass broader legislation this year based on the following simple points:

First, physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must have control over who enters our country before we even begin to consider complicated immigration reform proposals.

Second, enforce visa rules on those already in the country. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport individuals who overstay their visas or otherwise violate U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that some of the 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.

Third, reject amnesty. If we reward lawbreakers who enter this country illegally with citizenship, then any new laws Congress might pass likewise can be ignored. Reform must begin with a new mentality that immigration laws will be enforced.

Fourth, end welfare-state incentives for illegals. Americans are quick to welcome immigrants who simply wish to work hard and make a better life for themselves. But taxpayers cannot continue to pay when illegal immigrants use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.

Fifth, end birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the perverse incentive to sneak into this country remains strong. True citizenship involves more than the mere location of one’s birth.

Finally, completely overhaul the legal immigration process. The current system is incoherent and unfair. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods. If we keep these points in mind, immigration reform does not need to be complicated or expensive. It does, however, need to happen this year.

I hope you can answer it for me. I realize that Ron wants to end birthright citizenship. But replace it with what? I can't find anywhere what he wants to do to change it. Obviously, babies are born every day to American Citizens or Resident Aliens trying to become citizens. What is his plan for them? This is an honest question and I love Ron Paul's ideas, but I need to know the answer to this question before I feel comfortable talking to someone, because they may ask too.
Thanks

Ending Birthright Citizenship means a child born in the US, to an illegal immigrant or other non resident, does not automatically have US citizenship.
This does not apply to American citizens or resident aliens.

FRED THOMPSON’S ENTRY IS RON PAUL’S GAIN

Senator-Actor’s Conservative Credentials Blemished by Stance on Illegal Aliens

rss202

By John Tiffany

Fred Thompson’s formal entry in the Republican presidential sweepstakes helps Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) to the detriment of others competing for the “conservative” label. But Thompson the politician has problems that could be fatal.

The former Tennessee senator and TV star is trying to dress himself up as a little tin Ronald Reagan but an examination of his Senate record shows he may fit the image too well. Although Reagan, is a conservative icon, he was too easy on immigration. As a senator, Thompson was, too.

But, unlike the Reagan years, immigration is a burning issue in the nation today and especially with the Republican “core conservatives.” During eight years in the Senate, Thompson repeatedly supported amnesty for criminal aliens. When voters become aware of this, Thompson will have to feverishly repent and promise to sin no more.

Here’s Thompson’s immigration record: In 1995, he voted against an amendment that would have restricted benefits for illegal aliens. The amendment passed 94-6, and Republicans voted 49-5. In 1996, he voted against a worker citizenship verification program designed to keep illegal aliens from getting jobs. The program was approved 54-46. Republicans voted 20-33.

Ron Paul has long and consistently opposed rewarding illegal aliens with tax-funded benefits and amnesty. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is an outspoken advocate of amnesty. Reps. TomTancredo ( RColo.), Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) also strongly oppose amnesty. Mike Huckabee, former governor of
Arkansas, who had no previous record on the issue, says he opposes amnesty. Others are ducking for political cover now but cannot escape their past.

Former Massachusetts Gov.Mitt Romney is a late-life convert. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani still supports amnesty on grounds that entering and re-entering this nation illegally is somehow “not a crime” but a “civil violation” that should be tolerated.

Paul is one of three candidates in either party who would end the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately. All the others, except Bill Richardson (D), governor of New Mexico, and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) waffle about on “timetables” and “give the surge a chance.” Richardson, and Kucinich, would yank the troops immediately. Paul would also, as the only America-first candidate, bring U.S. troops home from around the world.

Despite establishment and media efforts to keep Paul sidelined by ignoring his candidacy, demeaning him, and keeping him out of debates, his message is resonating with voters. He was neck-and-neck with Hunter in a Texas straw poll you didn’t read or hear about and none in the “top tier” broke single digits.

Paul’s name remains the Internet’s most searched for politician. According to Technoration.com. See more at Ron Paul ’s website: RonPaul2008.com. Contact Paul’s office toll free: 1-888-322-1414.

Fred Thompson is a neo-conservative shill, just like Bush is...

I definitely support Ron Paul's immigration stance. I am college student and is hard as hell to find a place in town that does not hire illegal immigrants. I am not talking about just the farms, but also in fastfood joints like Taco Bell and even Carlos Jr.

I live in Sacramento, California. This city 7-8 years ago was a really nice place to live. People always greet each other even they were strangers. But over time illegal immigrants started arriving. Of course there were illegal immigrants in the city before, but the amount that arrived over a period of 2-4 years was amazing.

At a mall I use to go to each weekend changed. This food court stall I use to love eating at changed from friendly and understandable service to being nearly completely runned but illegal immigrants. The quality of the food dropped dramatically. I try ordering a cheesesteak, because they lacked understanding in English, the person at the cash register speaked in Spanish to the cook.

5 minutes later, instead of a $9 cheesesteak, and fries. I was served a sandwich that barely resembled the cheesesteak I had so happily come each weekend to consume.

Along with the quality of products, service is getting crappier, and people's way of treating each other also dramatically changed.

I use to love my town, but illegal immigration by any ethnic or nationality is ruining it. I damn hope Ron Paul wins and deports these illegal immgrants and have a more secured border. I don't care how it is secured, whether by building the Great Wall of America or have armed men and woman patrol it.
