Public education has failed. The kids won't stay in school. Schools are unable to fire teachers who aren't teaching. As John Stossel has said it, we have become "Stupid in America".

This is a big issue when I talk to others about downsizing the government. The fact is our society keeps doing public education because it has always been done that way. However, 200 years ago, society got by just fine without public education. Here are some alternatives:

Homeschooling (Via parents, friends, mutual agreements)

Self-education (Via books, internet)

Charity funded education (Funded by church groups and other humanitarian organizations)

Student loans (Loans are based on academic achievement. Better grades means the student can keep the loan. Bad students would have less education because they would not be able to receive a loan. However, the bad student would most likely drop out before then.)

Apprenticeship (Via businesses, Students learn actual skills they will actually use. Businesses can offer education to potential employees with good work ethic. Alternatively businesses could also offer a loan to students.)

Free Parochial Schooling (Via churches who wish to spread the word of God)

One of the most ludicrous ideologies of the communists and democratic socialists is the idea that one central authority dictates what is taught and has a certain curriculum. "Education" is by far one of the most diverse areas of civilization. There can not morally be one authority on this matter. Especially on history, oh the bias that exists and resides within is too noticeable. Some more than others, but in general it is very biased.
