I've been wondering this. Who provides the email services for your PRIMARY email address?

I'm not asking what your email is, only who the provider is.

A couple secret admin accounts for websites, and Gmail.

ISP for people I know and some groups. Hotmail for everything else.

This is pretty crazy, I expected a lot more yahoo.com or aol.com or hotmail.com people.

Anyone that uses their ISPs email is a bit thick in the head. It will change and there's no such thing as email portability like with phone numbers.

Well, I'd agree with this, but only because webmail providers have started offering POP access.

It's more than that, supposedly AOL + Yahoo + Hotmail is like 80%+ of the market share AT LEAST. GMail is for the tech savvy, not the common man.

GMail is the choice of a new generation. ;)

It's no big deal right now. I'm probably going to take over the world from behind my collection of google apps. You only have to worry about switching to Google services if you want to play an active role in my military organization.

Yahoo's spam filters suck. They sort out things they shouldn't, randomly.

I use gmail for most things. My family sends me email on an old yahoo account.

I actually love FASTMAIL.FM but I didn't want to pay for it anymore. I am thinking I should go back and pay for it again, because I don't like gmail's privacy issues either. Fastmail has a cool web folder system.

Get your own domain name, its cheap. I own several, and I'll always have chrismcgraw.com (unless I stop paying for it) no matter who I use to host it.

This topic reminds me. Why not have a couple Ubuntu email servers set up with raid 5 or 6 and charge a small fee to the community to use it.

Also, in my dream world, I'd have these forums hosted somewhere other than the USA.

Well, the reason I did this poll is I wanted to look at what are options are for a communications platform. The fact that an apparent plurality exists with GMail I think is a good sign.

And to your point, GMail allows you to use it as an interface to POP email accounts. So I don't know how much momentum you would get trying to offer pay-based email, since people could use GMail as a front-end to their ISP email accounts.
