With all of Washington and most of the media mesmerized by debate on the porkulus bill, little attention has been paid to what appears to be an unconstitutional power grab by President Obama.

The Obama administration reportedly (http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=3&docID=news-000003024858) wants the U.S. Census to be run directly out of the White House, as opposed to by a politically insulated official within the Department of Commerce.

This would apparently be unprecedented and unlawful (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/13/141.html) because federal law provides that the Census must be administered by the Commerce Department.

Former Census director Bruce Chapman (http://www.discovery.org/blogs/discoveryblog/2009/02/dont_politicize_next_years_cen.php) warns that no good could come of it. At his blog he writes about it: http://www.discovery.org/blogs/discoveryblog/2009/02/dont_politicize_next_years_cen.php

Haha my co-worker was complaining that he isn't the king. I applied to work for the census. Can I be knighted since I'll work for the king?

People would rather have a king than a guy who sits in an office and signs bills.

Well, guess I wont be working for the Census Bureau this time around. Sad, they need people with experience from the 2000 Census, but I'm not going to whore myself out to Obama.

Exactly. Obama just wants in on the ruse. And why shouldn't he get his opinions made into facts!

I was about to post the same story. Fox news reported on that this morning, claimed to be the first among the networks. Well when they hire me I'll keep my own records to verify there isn't anything shaddy.

This is a joke. Could someone explain how Obama will benefit from census data? And if the government could pull off 9/11 they couldn't manipulate the census before?

When you start thinking everything's a conspiracy you lose your credibility when it really matters.

He's American of course, but don't let the facts get in your way.

Maybe Obama is doing this in preparation for the Kenyan take over of the US :D

It's called gerrymandering and it sucks to be on the losing end of it.

The two aims of gerrymandering are to maximize the effect of supporters’ votes and to minimize the effect of opponents' votes. One strategy, packing, is to concentrate as many voters of one type into a single electoral district to reduce their influence in other districts. In some cases this may be done to obtain representation for a community of common interest, as in the coastal district shown at left, rather than to dilute that interest over several districts to a point of ineffectiveness. A second strategy, cracking, involves spreading out voters of a particular type among many districts in order to deny them a sufficiently large voting block in any particular district. The strategies are typically combined, creating a few "forfeit" seats for packed voters of one type in order to secure even greater representation for voters of another type. Gerrymandering is effective because of the wasted vote effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasted_vote_effect). By packing opposition voters into districts they will already win (increasing excess votes for winners) and by cracking the remainder among districts where they are moved into the minority (increasing votes for eventual losers), the number of wasted votes among the opposition can be maximized. Similarly, with supporters holding narrow margins in the unpacked districts, the number of wasted votes among supporters is minimized.

From the article

Its results determine the decennial redrawing of congressional districts

The census also determines the composition of the Electoral College, which chooses the president.

The results of the census are also enormously important in another way -- the allocation of federal funds.

Democrats have long advocated using mathematical estimates, a practice known as "sampling," to count urban residents and immigrants. Republicans say the Constitution requires a physical head count, which entails going door-to-door.

You're barking up the wrong tree again (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showpost.php?p=1961490&postcount=11), this time acting as if the Truthers speak for everyone here...and while I obviously can't speak for micahnelson, I'm pretty certain the Truthers don't either.

Except that the state legislatures are responsible for setting the district boundaries; however the federal government gets to count the people.

As Stalin said - it isn't who votes, it's who counts the votes that matters.
