A United Nations human rights treaty that could prohibit children from being spanked or homeschooled, ban youngsters from facing the death penalty and forbid parents from deciding their families' religion is on America's doorstep, a legal expert warns.

Yes, this has been coming for some time. Go see www.parentalrights.org for some eye-opening stories about how this is working out years later in European countries.

Please also join the parental rights fight as well. They need support. RPF members should come out en masse to support a cause like www.parentalrights.org.

People need to know that the double speak of "rights of the child" might sound good, but ultimately someone has to be looking out for the best interest of the child, and what "rights of the child" really means in today's world is the right of the state to control children and their parents. Parents should be in charge of their child's best interest. If a parent causes harm, we already have laws on the books to deal with those scenarios. More legislation to dictate how a child is raised is not the answer. Ultimately the child will receive less rights, not more, with the UN Rights of a Child.

Exactly! So long as the parent isn't abusing the kid, then there's no real reason to get so worked up. As Ron Paul said, "The government can't make you be a better person!"

Besides, when it comes to the death penalty, isn't that a state issue anyway? I'm against the death penalty on all accounts, but the UN has no right to undermine our national sovereignty and the power of the states as part of their "children's rights".
