Here's hoping the judge disagrees.

The man killed a police officer who was enforcing the law. Why should the judge disagree?

Protection of his private property?

I dunno the details of this incident, though.

That's a very convoluted case...

The comments (both within the article and following it) are all over the map, some claiming that imprisoning him puts cops in danger (because he wasn't found guilty of murder, but only of manslaughter), and others questioning the cops, the evidence, the witnesses, the warrant policy, the service of the warrant and procedures of the other officers.

What nobody is getting at: (1) why is it illegal to grow plants in your home? (2) what gives the police authority to break into your house if they know you are home? (3) why does the law seek to protect the heavily armed, heavily armored, well trained, risk-aware police by allowing them to ambush citizens? (4) Why is the popular blame put on the alleged entrepreneur and not the "drug war".

In the (altered by bracketing) words of the State's attorney: "But for the illegal behavior of [government officials creating the drug war], this man would not be dead today."

If you followed this case for the past year as I have.... there is a lot more to the story than just a guy that killed a cop.

For all the background see below... but also pay special attention to the following videos from last week's court case:

Then form your opinion.

This is a tragedy not just for the cop and his family but for Frederick as well.

The real culprit is the insane war on drugs. That is what should be on trial.

I rarely cuss on forums but today I must say the following:

FUCK THE WAR ON DRUGS, FUCK IT WITH A BAG OF DICKS.

That felt slightly better....

Enjoy.

You have a right to defend yourself in your own home. If someone was busting down my door I would have done the same thing. The man should be let go. The police officers should be forced to pay for his lawyers and reparations including damage done to his door. Being a police officer doesn't give you the right to damage someones property.

If you got your door bashed in in the middle of the night, what would you do?

Yeah I don't think anyone likes the war on drugs, but right now possessing and growing drugs is illegal, if the wikia story is correct then I agree, he had a right to shoot him.

oooo the horror of a lil ole plant!!!! i would of shot the cop to for entering my home. they could of just knocked on the god -damn door.

f-them. is it that hard to get a warrant and knock on a door???? the whole operation was overkill.

100 fine for marijuana here whoopie. the war on marijuana is a joke and the cops are a joke if it wasn't so serious. The cops should be arrested for being dumbasses!!! the whole operation was a waste of taxpayer money and they could of just waited and arrested the guy leaving his house or knock on his door like a amway salesperson. Keystone cops is what it sounds like!!!
