September 13, 2007

We are now a little over two weeks from the end of the fundraising quarter (September 30th). As we've mentioned in the past, we're working overtime to help Ron Paul have as successful a quarter as possible, and we're hoping to blow by the expectations of the mainstream media and others who didn't think our campaign had a chance.

Our fundraising efforts are critical for many reasons. Most directly, the more successful the campaign is at fundraising, the earlier and more frequent that we'll be able to run radio and television ads in early primary states such as New Hampshire and Iowa.

The funds that we raise are also key determinants for whether Dr. Paul can continue to participate in nationally-televised debates, and whether he can receive secret service protection.

But donating before September 30th is also important because Ron Paul's fundraising numbers will be scrutinized by pundits and others in the mainstream media as a sign of the health and vitality of Dr. Paul's campaign. Let's show them how popular freedom really is!

If you've been planning to make a donation to our efforts, we can't stress enough how essential it is to do so before the September 30th quarter deadline. Please support us by making your most generous donation:* https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate

Ridiculous

Just curious, what is the cutoff amount that gets a candidate protection? If there is such an amount.

I'm not sure but thats an EXCELENT question - I really wish we had more communication about funraising totals even if they were estimates even if they were on the low conservitive side!

Karl is the guy who stand behind Ron all the time and never says a word.

I suspect the bulge in his suit is a weapon of some sort.

Karl is indeed a true ninja badass. From what I gather he is former federal law enforcement.

Karl Golovin, Ron's chief of security, the guy hovering over Ron's shoulder in most crowd pictures. If you don't see him in a picture it's usually because he's casing the doors or otherwise in the shadows. That dude gets around.

No, the bald guys are Lew Moore and Kent Snyder. Karl is the one with the dark hair.

He does say a word if you meet him, he really is a great guy. If Ron is going to have just one security guy for now, let it be Karl.

Karl does speak; he's actually a really nice guy. I have spoken to him personally and got a really good vibe about him. Whether he has a weapon or not isn't relevant and isn't really worth discussing here, nor are security implementations of any kind - I'd say we should focus on other topics.

As far as rent-a-cops, it's possible a university police officer was there in uniform to help clear the crowd out of the way - I wasn't there at USC, so I don't know - but make no mistake, Dr. Paul is secured by plain-clothed folks. :)

I'll make a pedge of 40 bucks too next paycheck!

RP HQ is forgoing 50 media requests per day to focus on this West Coast Fundraising Trip - They are very concerned with that 3rd Quarter number comming up

Could you imagine Fred having Secret Service Protection and Ron Paul going it alone??? Could you imagine if anything happened - how could we forgive ourselves

Karl is keeping Congressman Paul safe. It would be nice if he was allowed to get some secret service to help out.

I absolutely HATE to mention this - but I was at USC and Ron Paul literally jumps into the crowd! It's like a beehive? I mean more like a rock star - bordering on fervent - my Wife couldn't get a picture. He is almost TOO accessable....

Side note: on a recent flight to Pheonix I ran my bags through TFA or what ever you call those guys that check carry on luggage and make you take off your belt and shoes,
sat down and found a 8 inch very sharp pair of scissors I forgot in my bag...I was using them for my kids project - Our Gov't in Action???

I just through them away before I went on the plane

I'll donate because I want Ron Paul to win......but protection is mostly an illusion.....anyone can be gotten to if one is willing to spend the effort.

Secret Service didn't do much for Kennedy or Regan.

Personally I think it would be hilarious to see what Secret Service protection for Ron Paul would look like. I imagine he'd give them all kinds of headaches. Heck, as President I doubt he'd even keep them around, at least not in their current form. (Well, that's a given, since they are under Homeland Security now.)

It's sad - the proper place for the USSS was Treasury. People focus on the 'protecting people' bit, but that is only a tiny portion of the law enforcement duties of the USSS, the vast majority relate to financial matters.

Haha, I love it.

How about Karl to be "Eagle 1" or whomever they call the head Secret Service dude.

Heck, I have planes and helicopters over my house all the time. Although I believe that has more to do with the fact that I"m in the flight path for a general aviation airport. Now, if one of those helicopters were to hover over my house, I'd get a bit nervous.

OK, why would we trust the government forces to protect Ron Paul's interests?

If we got rid of the Fed the SS dealing with counterfeit money would be pretty much moot.

The protection job should probably have gone to the US Marshal service instead of the Treasury, anyway.

hey, Rent-a-Cop is a compliment to me. You could call me Flashlight Cop, or Rent-a-Pig, or whatever else... but seeing as how Cop is a step up from Security, i take that as a compliment!

We actually have a very important job. Heck, i had a run in with Homeland Security last week even... and i got to see a Rottweiler get pepper sprayed and fed twinkies... LOL. Security is a fun gig.

I'm sure Ron's Security Director could kick Chuck Norris's ass if he wanted to. Those guys in Private Protection know EVERYTHING. They're like MacGyver meets Bruce Lee meets Survivorman meets Jack Bauer.

I'm not going to denigrate the SS by suggesting they wouldn't do their job regardless of what they think of the candidate. I certainly think Paul's people should have the option to do their own background checks, but if anything I think the SS would be most likely to be too protective of Paul for his tastes.

i think dr paul will be safe as long as we can keep the secret service away from him.

doesn't the SS take an oath to the president?

My guess is that Ron Paul is the only candidate who is personally armed.

When I was dealing in very large piles of gold on the days we expected a signature to come down we would get direct flyovers. If it was coincidence it happened like 40 times.
I always go out and flip them the finger when they fly over.. What are they gonna do.. Land? You can always make a bolo wth a couple of weights and a rope and fling it at their blades if they get too low.:D

I really don't like seeing people make disparaging remarks about the Secret Service. Those folks are true professionals and make serious sacrifices to do their jobs.

Agreed! I think they've got pride in what they do and they try to do a good job.

If you haven't already seen it, check out this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFpPjjKdUds)of a secret service agent frustrated after being told to stay away from JFK's motorcade just before he's driven towards his assassination; defenseless!

Yes, they are running alongside the vehicle.

Standard procedure is to jump on the back bumper and stay with the car when the car starts to gather speed and they can no longer keep up by running alongside. The guy telling them to stand down in the car following JFK's limo is apparently CIA from what i've heard. Very strange!
